How do I price multiple items with the same name differently? (map pieces)
Sorry if there has already been a board about this, but I can't figure out how to do this, and it's really messing up my statistics in portal. I do training, luck, and maps in my shop, the only problem is that when I put "Piece of a Treasure Map" (or something similar) portal can only record one of them with one purchase price and one sale price. I thought about averaging my purchase prices with my selling prices, but I think that would still throw off my stats. Is there any way to fix this, or go around it? Sorry if I was supposed to put a screen shot, but I thought this was easy enough to understand that one wasn't needed.

Yeah no screenshots needed. This was a problem since version 1 of the portal. I was going to implement a pricing structure where the last digit in the price would dictate the map piece number but never got around to it. I might work on it next week though (since my exams run till this friday) --------------------------------------------- Celebrate Xmas at Xmart. Yeah, I have finals this coming weeks also, but luckily only 3 this semester. I was wondering if maybe you could enter it into portal as Piece of a treasure map 1, Piece of a treasure map 2, etc.. If that were possible to do, the only flaw would be that you really could use the wiz to price with it, but for my sales/profits, not being able to do this really throws all of that out of proportion. Also, in regards to what you were thinking, the only flaw I see with that is I price a few pieces based on the shop wizard prices. If I needed to lower my price on one of them, and change the last digit from what was in the portal, it might not record it right. Just my thoughts/ideas.

For my map pieces I have them each priced, so the last number in their price is their number. Then, when I in put sales or my shop front, I just add in the number right behind the item name. You have to manually add it to each item, but it really doesn't take long. Of course, you also have to have them all added into your database in teh same way, *nods* ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~

I gave up and removed them from portal:/ But I would love to separate the lab maps, pet lab maps, treasure maps and spooky maps!

I did it like Amy said... I have 4 secret lab maps, and when I entered them into the DB, I called them "Secret Laboratory Map 3", "Secret Laboratory Map 4", etc. Then the prices are something like 10,003... 10,004... etc For petpet lab maps, they all cost ~700nps, and I sell them all at the same prices, so I keep it as one item ... I only have 4 map pieces to do this for, but with a full map shop, I know its a lot more to deal with and is a lot more annoying... no idea if someone found a better way to do it...

I'll bump this up as it was the only thread I could find on the topic (though I think there were more!) I'm wondering if this is still the best solution, since I'm taking up a mall spot where this matters! Thanks for the ideas you have here, they'll at least get me started!

I don't know if it's the best way, but I do it the same way as everyone above does =) I enter them into portal as Secret Laboratory Map1, Secret Laboratory Map2, etc., then have the last digit of their price correspond to their map #. You do have to manually add the numbers in before putting your sales history into the portal, but as mentioned above, it doesn't take that much time =)
Lucky Treasure Maps!

It doesn't take much time, but I'm the kind of person who likes to reduce it to _0_ time, don't think I'll get there though *lol* Actually, I think the thing that will bother me more is that everyone labels the map pieces in a very strange order (1 in top left, then snaking down the left, up the middle, back down the right). I don't think I can cope with that *lol* And if I do it 'my own way' (left to right, top to bottom, you know, nice and simple), only #1 and #9 will match anyone elses ideas of what they're supposed to be :) At least, that's going by how the Secret Lab Map pieces are labeled at Dekasin, I haven't looked at all of the others yet, but I'm a proponent of consistency :)

I can't blame you for wanting to reduce the time it takes to input your sales history to zero, that would be amazing, but as you said, i don't think it will get there :P And I agree, it's just odd the way they numbered the maps in the first place. Top to bottom starting at the upper left corner just seems wrong, it would have made more sense to me to have them go across from left to right, starting at the top. And the petpet map is different, it's pieces are numbered the way I wish they all were, but those don't really make a difference, since like everyone else, I don't put those in separately, because all but piece #7 are relatively close in price :P
Lucky Treasure Maps!

It would make all your lives so much easier if TNT added numbers to all the map piece names. *lol* » Luck « » http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=twilight51492 «
