Is malling still worth it?
I read at alot of places that malling isnt worth it anymore and that the profits arent near what it used to be. Im new to malling so I dont know, im only shop size 137. I do know that the only things i've sold over the past 2 weeks were only because the prices of those items went up... and most of my hits are just people seraching through the shop wizard and buying the items I get from dailies which I price at lowest on the shop wizard. All my other hits are from the category "other" o.O I price my items 50-150 np higher then the shop wizard. My question is, am I doing something wrong? Am I in a bad mall? Or is malling alltogether not really worth it anymore?

At low shop sizes, malling is often not worth it. Depends on what you stock (and your pricing) and if your mall is getting you a decent amount of hits. malling now is definitely not as profitable as it used to be, but its more about doing it if you love it. --Manic http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=tehubermanic

Hits from your malls shops come through as 'other' now, since & variables in links are filtered out by TNT now. Same with links from petpages, etc. Is it worth it? That's up to you :) It's not the same as years ago from all I've seen and read, but it can still be a nice profit. It's just not no-effort insta profit now, it takes time and effort to make it worth it. And some days, sales are just bad. Those are sad days indeed!

I don't think its worth it anymore to spend 50-60m neopoints to get to main market and join a mall.. it would take too many years and a lot of hard work to earn back all those neopoints. But having a size 137 shop should be good enough for making profit still, just price items a little bit above the shop wizard but such that they still appear when someone is searching for them. Stock multiples and you should be able to turn out a nice profit without having to invest too many neopoints.

About a year ago, a friend of mine started hinting that she was starting a 'different' kind of mall. At the time, my shop was size 30, and I'd never given much thought to being in a mall. But her idea sounded interesting, so I upgraded to size 50 (hehe, I know) and joined. Now, as our mall is approaching it's first anniversary, my shop is at size 202. and still growing (my theme is music), and I'm upgrading slowly. For me, the best part of being in a mall is the friendship and support it brings. I NEVER would have done this without being part of a mall! We have shops ranging in size from over a thousand to under 100 - not at all 'normal' categories, and it works. I will say, one of the 'secrets' has been advertising. As a specialty shop, I've been able to pick up collectors along the way, and that's helped too. I can remember being very skeptical in the beginning that it would work, and felt like it was a hopeless cause more than once! But I stuck with it, in part because of being part of the mall - and while I'm not becoming uber rich, it has been profitable and fun.
