Your opinions on breaking up categories
So I run a few 4mil NB Ads, and on the ads, there's obviously some categories that are more popular than others. And I wanted to see what most people think of the best way to break down categories are. For example... Neohome/Garden seems popular... would you keep it 1 button? Maybe 2? (Neohome and Garden) Maybe 3? (Furniture, Neohome V2, Garden) Another one is Food/Drinks/etc. Same thing, 1, 2, 3 buttons? (Food, Drinks, Candy/Bakery, etc) And a big one is Clothing! I was thinking of even doing 4 buttons! (Grooming, Clothing, Wearables, Trinkets, Backgrounds, etc) I know that it would be good to get more people on the ad, since they are more popular categories. But then, people might also be less willing to participate if their category got split into 2/3/4 buttons and they only have 1 of those buttons... Also, are there any other categories that you think would be good to break up? And lastly, do you think that its better to have the 6 faerie buttons on an ad? Or scrap them and allow for more room for regular buttons? Faeries are sort of hard to fill, yet I like having them on my ads... So yea, just wanted to open up a discussion about peoples opinions :D

Ooh another question... would you prefer that the ad have as many buttons as possible to reduce costs? Or prefer that there are less categories, higher price, but you get a bigger button?

Maybe neohome and garden but further splitting up is too much imo. same with wearables. Grooming alone is a very crap spot too =/

I think splitting up is a great idea makes the ad much easier to fill, but I'll have to see how it words out profit wise and go from there Also I think bigger button is better than if there were like 40 buttons or something but thats just my opinion

Yea, I thought Neohome/Garden into 2 would be split enough, but is Garden as popular alone? Wearables, you think a 2 button split is enough? Maybe Clothing/Grooming, then Bakcgrounds/Trinkets ?

I, too, run a few four million neopoints advertisements. I have Neohome and Garden separated. I also have Chocolates, Bakery, Drinks and Foods. Furthermore, I added an "Everything" category that is synonymous to the "General" category. Recently, I had just added a "Fashion" category instead of naming it "Wearables Trinklets". It may seem like the shop owners that are in my advertisements are limited to getting less sales because of the separation of categories but I have not heard a complaint about this, yet. Instead, it actually benefits them on having more choices on which category they like the best to fill. As a result, I get lots of people in the waiting list that have different interests. Overall, I'm quite lenient with the categories names as long as it does not overwhelm a category a lot. For instance, the "Foods" category consists of more than thousands of items. To benefit a buyer, it is beneficial for the seller to help their search. The same with the Garden and Furniture category. I also don't limit the participants in my advertisement that many malls do on their stock. This way, even with the separation of the categories, they can still benefit from the advertisement. You're in for a surprise. Your wish has just been granted! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=1434sweet Do you need more shop sales? Come participate in a 4 million shop advertisement! well from my experience, the majority of people on NB ads dont really care/dont know about the profit. For instance, some spots are guaranteed to lose NPs at prices above 200k but the people who take those spots barely complain.

I forgot to add that I do not have any faerie spots because, as you have said, they are hard to fill. Personally, I think having faerie spots makes the clickable areas for the categories smaller. Therefore, I do not like having those. You're in for a surprise. Your wish has just been granted! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=1434sweet Do you need more shop sales? I know I'd have to drop my spot if you did that since I recently dropped grooming :( And I hope you give existing members first choice of categories if you do decide to change/add more buttons :P

the splitting up of categories too much irritates me and hurts your hits. I dropped out of an NB advert once because I had held the Clothing/Grooming button and then one day out of the blue they added a Wearables/Background button (before the Clothing/Grooming one was the only relevant one on the advert) and my hits from that ad took a HUGE drop. Clothing/Grooming is a bit of a poopy button once Wearables/Backgrounds gets tossed in there.
