brainstorm for a good domain idea, then check to see if it's available. The cheapest place I know of to buy domains from is: 1and1.com I use them and their customer service is good. Not sure about the host. ~ Love books? Please visit my bookshop. :) http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=lolooma

Try lunarpages. 4.95 a month + free domain. It's unlimited resources (but this is a lie obviously) it should be good for the first year or so

I use GoDaddy. They're pretty good and fairly cheap. They've usually got some sort of special running. If cost was really a problem, you could pay for the domain name ($10) and I could host it for you. I've got a hosting account with them that allows as many domain names as I want. But I have no idea how the access would work.. I'm sure I could set up something where you could upload and edit the site content, but you'd have to be happy with me having access as well (not that I'd touch it).

godaddy is probably the worst host ever. i hear so many complaints from the host. 1and1's hosting is semi ok but still lots of issues. be very careful of hosts that boast unlimited. its just not possible for just 5 dollars a month and they have a clause in the t/c that allows them to kick people out who use"alot" shared hosting only works because they expect most of the customers to have a website with barely any visitors but as soon as you do, suspended for cpu overage lol. i remember when i used to get kicked or suspended when online users went above 10. in short you get what you pay for.

Google isnt too great though. Companies often send spies into these review sites and throw nasty comments at each other. Anyways, from my experience: Lunarpages.com - good sql speed, good support, relatively good CPU allowance. However, go over 2% CPU and you'll have them knocking on your door. But they wont suspend your site right away, they'll send you a notice. Dreamhost: Very good if you plan to use HTML pages and images. They dont care about BW usage that much. BAD: very very slow mysql database speed ($10 a month) Dot5hosting: not that great. Neomallers got locked out at 10 users online, 800 total users registered Hostmonster: Beyond terrible. Was kicked out at 3 users online. Told me the xmart folder was using too much bandwidth and i was only use 200GB a month when they stated 15000 GB. (4.95 a month) DrupalValueHosting: Currently hosted with neomallers. It's great but support is terrible. Might take 3+ weeks or a couple months to get a reply to a ticket. Only use if you know what you're doing. Plans range from $10 to $40 a month.
