Here is my 24" imac desktop. Jealous? :P Edit: Sorry here is the right picture.
Haha, I might have been if I was not currently building a kick *** machine of my own, 2.83 Ghz Quad Core Intel Processor with 16 gbs of ram, 2TB Harddrive and 2 graphics cards, one a 512 mb and the other a 1gb, I'm planning on adding a ton of stuff to it later ie bluray, tv card etc.
:O I didn't even know 16GB RAM was possible o.0 I thought 6-8GB was the limit. If you don't mind me asking, how much is that kick ass machine going to cost? :P
Oh and btw I get all my OS/Software for legally AND for free =D
and as a note to seanaf, if you tried getting the computer I'm building from the MAC store, it'd cost ya around $5,200, just so you know how much they rip you off, they're essentially charging you an extra $4,500 for labor and software

If you don't mind me asking, how much is that kick ass machine going to cost? :P
well that depends on which stage of the upgrading you are asking about... if its just the one graphics card, the processor, motherboard, harddrive and ram, it shouldn't cost more than $700, however I know for a fact that if you went and tried to get HP etc to do it, they'd charge you almost double that. Some of the parts i'm using ie the 1st graphics card and tower, and even some of the ram I'm taking from my old computers, the motherboard I'm buying ($89) is pretty new and supports up to 16 gbs of ram which most companies don't even offer mainly because anyone who even needs that much ram odds are can put it together themselves. The processor is $229, and if I actually go and buy 16 gbs of ram which i doubt it would cost another $200 per 8 gb, and then $150ish for the hard drive
I'm a bit stupid, but from what I understood of that post, sounds very cool :P maybe once this machine shuts down for the final time (which it might do soon, with all the stuff I'm feeding it) maybe I'll give making my own computer a shot. 16GB RAM sounds fun :P
You better believe it, however like I said I don't think I'll go 16 gb for a while, I'll leave it at 8gb, and when things start actually needing more ram, I'll upgrade to a full 16
What do you need 16GBs of RAM for? lol, you will never fill even 6GB of RAM if you are doing just that, so instead of throwing money away, you could get a much more powerful PC for probably the same price.. Wayyyyyyy better processor for the exact same price (can have it clocked to nearly 4GHZ on air if you are into that sort of thing...) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9486424&type=product&id=1218112692460 Your mobo isn't very good, and I don't think you realise it has 2x PCIe slots. (You mentioned 2xGPUs and expanding to TV tuners and BluRay etc? Will not happen with that mobo). http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9486594&type=product&id=1218112693068 $189, supports triple channel DDR3 up to 1333Mhz, and up to 24GB. Better PSU, I recommend making sure you buy a modular PSU! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9358269&type=product&id=1218090911783 BTW even 8GB of DDR2 800Mhz is expensive, 3x2GB sticks of DDR3 will save you money, give you awesome performance, and will last you a long time...

Well it's probably SATA, but I was making a point that the mobo will severely limit you in several ways... Most people like to get cheap mobo's coz they don't understand the importance... My PC I bought a month ago has an Asus P6T, not sure what it costs where you live, but I'd strongly recommend it, that, an i7 920, and 3x2GB sticks of RAM shouldn't cost you much, throw in a 1TB hard drive and a decent GPU and you have a solid PC that will do anything you want with ease for a long time... Anyway, up to you of course, have fun :D

College has been cruel to my bank account.
