I started with this website: http://www.lissaexplains.com/html.shtml (keep in mind, it's directed at kids & the young at heart, but being on Neopets that shouldn't be a problem :P). If you are making more than a one page virtual business card site, you are definitely going to want to learn about Cascading Style Sheets (http://www.lissaexplains.com/css.shtml) and PHP Include function (http://www.tizag.com/phpT/include.php) as well. That way you don't have to edit every single page if you want to change your menu/header/footer. Makes things a LOT easier in the long run. Other than Lissa Explains It All, I just kinda went through trial & error and picked up random bits here and there as I needed it. There is also http://www.w3schools.com/ I am sure DreamWeaver could be helpful but it wasn't used anywhere I learned anything so I never tried it. I don't feel I missed out on anything but it might be fun to play with.

Meh, I was hoping someone would know of one without spyware that wasn't illegal.

Software comes without spyware...? :O I'd recommend getting a second hand version of dreamweaver off ebay or something. They can be relatively cheap. And the money spent is highly comparable to the stress avoided and time saved. I learnt mostly by myself, but I did have a friend to help me. Anytime I wanted to do something, I'd search google for 'html wrap text around image' or whatever I wanted to do. Occasionally I tried to 'cheat' and download and use a template, but they're usually harder to manage than it is to create your own. My common practise these days is to create my website in photoshop; exactly how I want it (minus the text). Then I create those guide lines in photoshop to section off my menu/window/news/headingimage/etc. Then I copy the relevant sections, create new files for each of the images, and systematically place them in a table within dreamweaver. It's a little more complicated in practise, but it creates a very nice looking site. The biggest tip I can give you with web design is to start simple. And stay away from premade scripts until you know how to make some of them yourself; if you don't know what you're looking at, you wont know what to do with it or how to utilise it. As Wildmoon mentioned above; learn how to work with cascading style sheets, and make use of the PHP include function. And as always, feel free to contact us if you have problems. I'll answer as soon as I can :)
