I had one one time when my boyfriend was in Brazil for the summer and we didn't get to talk much. So we actually had a chance to talk on the computer and I kept covering my eyes until I heard the msn sound, read it quickly, and typed with my eyes closed. I couldn't chat for more than a few minute. I took some advil and went to sleep and when I woke up it was gone and I felt sooo good! I've never had one as bad as that in a while, but I still get them every now and then. Sleep is the best cure for me, I find.

The caffeine helps when my daughter gets migraines. Her doctor had her on the anti-depressant drugs for a while as well though she doesn't need those any more.

nothing really helps me, some days i go to bed with such headache that i cant see anything, i am like blind and gotta puke, and then i wake up and the headache is still there... i take like 3-4 meds until i notice some effect and idk. i also press my head between 2 pillows, turn off all lights and drink cold water and such, that makes it little better too. what helps me prevent migraines is jogging and walking on fresh air...
*********************************************************************************** I DONT AGREE WITH THE ABOVE STATEMENT AT ALL I have suffered with MIGRAINES for years, but just because I have a migraine doesnt mean I can just leave my job and go home to bed. Sure Migraines often make you vomit. I dont know about other people but as soon as I feel one coming on I try and take pain killers or use a nasal spray (even though it cost an arm and a leg like $50 a shot) but when you have such a BAD MIGRAINE if you can afford the price of the nasal spray its worth it. Sometimes nothing and I mean nothing works except rest rest and even more rest. There are soooo many things that can bring on a Migraine. So I know what my dr has told me and NO IT'S NOT A LINGERING HEADACHE Sorry but I hate people trying to tell me that it maybe just a headache when I know its more than that. THE END.
I didn't know you were at work so that's why I suggested you sleep. The fact is, whether it's a headache or the worst migraine, sleep is the #1 thing recommended by doctors. I know because my mother has migraines as do I. I didn't realize people get them without vomiting and being able to function in light - as my doctor has me lock myself up when I have episodes which typically last a few days. I envy those who suffer who can do this and still somewhat function - again, I didn't realize that many people can function with migraines - sorry to offend you. Didn't mean to offend you to the point of caps, I truly didn't know you were at work (you talked about showering, I assumed you were home) or anything else of that nature.

I think there is an being able to function with them, and a having no choice but to muddle through the day with one. I took a sick day just last week because I had a migraine, knew i'd be no use in class so I contacted them and then went back to bed. However when I had a job in England having time off wasn't always an option, no matter how ill. Again though, all depends on how severe the migraine is. Maybe I have mild ones compared to some of you. A migraine has only made me vomit a couple of times. I have been in agony with them for days on end before though, literally clutching a pillow or my hand to my head constantly, unable to really have any light in the room. Life goes on however, so if I do have to work or study with a migraine I just take whatever I can for it and muddle through until I can get home to bed. ___________ Kirsty, aka evil super mod Sniper, maller, restocker Silverdragon siggy stealer Best wearables shop owner ever!

Yeah, I can understand getting through the day. At my worst point with migraines, I had to an outside orientation from about 11 am until 5 pm in the summer, so around 100 degrees Fahrenheit here in Louisiana. I couldn't skip out or I lost my credit hours for that class. So, I bared through it - was so violently ill through the whole thing and for the next two days. It was terrible, but I managed somehow - thank you vicodin, more or less. On a different note, I've noticed that I tend to offend people on here just by casual conversation and talking. I think I may have to revamp the entire way I type/come across via text for this website, lol. I'm not sure if it's the demographic I'm reaching or me, but I definitely never intend to be rude or nasty. I think I'll start adding smilies and being less succinct (more in depth) so I'm unlikely to offend. ^-^

I wouldn't worry about it :P I do the smiley thing though, to an exagerated overuse, but I find that it helps people tell better when i'm being grumpy and when i'm not, since I am the queen of offending people on here and generally losing my temper to anyone that annoys me. ___________ Kirsty, aka evil super mod Sniper, maller, restocker Silverdragon siggy stealer Best wearables shop owner ever!

I have had migraines all my life (my files say since I was about 3, but I was a "colicky" baby before that and I'd bet it was migraines too). I can't work or go to school and nearly failed my last year high school even on 50% schedule, due to missing. I have had EEGs and CT scans and an MRI that found nothing. To this day I've yet to figure out any sort of pattern or trigger and have no auras. Sometimes I can function on the computer (can only stand to be laying in the dark so long) and sometimes I cannot bear to be on here for even a second. I was finally prescribed Imitrex a year ago by a new doctor (even the specialists wouldn't try me on anything as I last went when I was not an adult) and it finally helped, though thankfully in BC I was covered and got them pretty much free (portion of the dispensing fee, $1.25). Here in Ontario they are like $20-30/pill and I frequently would need 2, and I think when I got 60 of them before leaving BC for Ontario they lasted me maybe 3 months. So I'm back to nothing at the moment. I tried the Cayenne in rice after I was desperate and looking up "migraine home remedies" and someone said really hot/spicy curry helped ease for them until meds kicked in. If your not too nauseas and don't have digestive problems it could hurt, I figured it was worth a try. Even a small bit of easing for a short amount of time is worth it. Other than prescribed meds I don't really know. Sometimes they wouldn't even help and nothing would but time (sometimes weeks). I've spent a week here and there locked in a dark room conked out on a lot of sleep meds to try and get through until it would subside for a few hours. Wouldn't wish them on anybody and hope you can find something that helps you.
