That would be right if that 2 starting hits aren't from 2 of your 4 friends.

It depends on how long the player revisited your shop. There is a certain time duration that somewhat prevents you from increasing your hits. This is to prevent duplicate hits.
For example: You viewed your Shop Front (Hit + 1). Then you go to another page, and you view your shop front AGAIN. (this time it won't count. The counter treats this as a duplicate hit so it wont be counted - see the need to prevent duplicate hits? :))
After 1 hour or so maybe you viewed your shop again (Hit+1 again - the time duration passed and viewing your shop adds to your hits again). Then you go to another page then viewed your shop again. (wont add)

ADDITIONAL: Mall hits do not count purchases They count, instead, PAGE VIEWS. This means, just even with customers viewing your shop, with or without them buying, it would count as a hit.
And hits restart everyday.

The counter seems to reset at midnight. So if 4 people visit your shop this morning, that would be 4 hits. If they come back later in the day, it doesn't count. But, depending on how they get to your shop, it will count. I tested this some time ago by visiting my shop from different links.
View your shop front equals one hit, Go to your shop from an NB ad equals another hit, go to your shop from a mall banner equals another hit. But you can only get 1 per day from each route.
Hope that makes sense.
Hits do not necessarily mean sales either. You can have a day with lots of hits but few sales and vice versa.
