i just switched into this category, and sales are pretty slow :| any tips? would a map/negg buying guide petpage help?
I do maps, paint brushes, and morphing potions, and the biggest thing is if you're not MM you're going to have to price according to the SW to some degree and also realize that prices change drastically. The lowest Secret Lab map piece has gone for 11k - 9k - 7k, then out of nowhere jumped back up to 11k. And the lowest treasure map has been doing the exact same thing but I think right now its at a low of 5k or something. My suggestion for that section would be to buy lower than your SW category and price about 1/3-1/2 in the top 5 of your SW category and then the rest a little higher so therefore that is where most of your profit is coming from. Most people if they see that most of your pieces are the lowest, they'll go ahead and buy all of them from your shop instead of refreshing and trying to find them. At that point don't rely just on the SW - start making ads on the shop boards and bump it every once in awhile but always put in the title - buying, post shops too, so therefore you're getting free bumps. And if you don't see a certain piece selling for awhile, go and recheck prices. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=evilbluemunkeyz
i'm main market, sorry i didn't mention that. is it more profitable to bulk stock map pieces at near sw prices, or to mark them up as you would with most mall items?
I think Maps/Negg/Luck is a great spot for main market. I'm size 242 in a main market mall, I get about 10+ hits a day.. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + Shop Size Goal : 611 Current Size: 242 Help me? : http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=obsolete_soldier
10 HITS A DAY!? *lol* ------------------------------- See my new screenie petpage? You may be a member of the main branch of your mall, but you are about 400 sizes short of actually being in a main MARKET mall. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~

I was trying to figure out why 10 hits a day was such a good thing.... I'm never statisfied if I'm not hitting 150-200 even with a smaller size shop. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=evilbluemunkeyz
1434sweet could also weigh in heavily on how to improve sales, I believe. Once you learn the pricing for maps, it's very profitable. I do know you need some pieces to be competitively prized on the wiz. Almost everyone I know who is successful with that category uses a petpage. I'm not saying it correlates with success, but it certainly couldn't hurt. I would suggest putting one up. I'll let the experts suggest more for you :P - Kara
Hello o0firewings0o! I didn't know you were having problems with your new category. However, you did jump into "Maps & Neggs & Luck" just a few weeks ago from a "Paintbrush" category. You may have seen a decline of sales because of this. "Maps & Neggs" isn't really a popular category compare to the "Paintbrush" category. I've had the "Luck" button from my previous mall, Faerie's Glen, and I could tell you that it did improve my sales a bit. At that time, I had more sales of scratchcards than neggs. I priced the lowest price scratchcards to 1.99k and it was selling like hot cakes (at least 30 a day). Then there's always those higher priced scratchcards which I could profit from 10k-20k which could be bought sometimes. As you can see, just having the "Luck" button is very helpful for your category. I can tell you now that maps sell more than neggs. And luck items sell more than maps and neggs: Luck items > Maps > Neggs Neggs just make the shop looks cute so people could browse in it. The main profitable items in your shop are maps. I price spooky, secret laboratory, piece of treasure maps at 10k-50k more than its SW price. Hehe. You may ask why I sell these every week even with a ridiculous mark-up price? I advertise a lot. I advertise heavily in the shop boards (posting and creating my own thread), here (my signature) and sometimes in 4M advertisements. On top of that, I have a maps directory (which is currently unfinished) but I do have a finished neggs directory. I used to have the avatar directory when I had that category with maps, neggs and luck items. As you can see, "Maps, Neggs, Luck" requires a lot of hard work. Compare to your former category, the "Paintbrush" category. However, it can be profitable if you put some effort in it. I know because I've had your category for such a long time, more than 10 months, and I love it! :)

WC maps aren't really my thing. However, I've had like 100 WC maps in my shop and I had to remove it because it wasn't selling well. Now, I'm putting all of WC maps back in from my SDB and will try to make its mark-up lower. Previously, I had it 10k-20k above SW price but I can tell you now that mark-up like that on WC map pieces don't work. People who buy WC maps are smarter, I think. So they only buy it 3-5k more than the SW price. I know this because I just put it back yesterday and I had a few sold this morning at that kind of mark-up. My collection of WC maps are not complete, yet. But I'm too busy restocking back that I can't seem to restock WC maps because I'm always shop wizard ban. Anyways, raine_storme said that it is very profitable. Her shop is full of complete WC maps and her mark-up isn't that high. So yeah, definitely try it out if you have the neopoints to restock it all. =)

part of the problem is LOTS of competition(myself included) I spent a while on only scratchcards but expanded to what your doing now. If your not competitively pricing, your not selling lots.

WC maps are kind of... non-classical in how profitable they are. Individually, they aren't very profitable. So if you're thinking about selling just a few, that'll be pointless. However, if you stock all of them (as I do), they can be pretty profitable. On an average day, I might sell 500k in maps, with a couple hundred k in profit. The main profitability comes from the days that don't fit the average... Every now and again, someone will come in and buy millions of np worth of maps in a single day. I think my record was one customer who dropped 6M in my shop over the course of a few hours. The individual bought... 5 or 6 (I don't remember how many exactly) full sets of WC pieces (and each set is 20 pieces). On some of the pieces, I profited just a few k... But they also bought pieces that had inflated then deflated again. So on some of the pieces, I made 70 or 80k. WC pieces have very volatile prices, and I rarely reprice. If a piece goes nearly UB, then drops down again to 10k, chances are I'll have it in my shop for 99k, and it will still sell. :P But yeah, its a ton of work to get WC's to a point where they ARE really profitable... for the first year of having the category, I never really saw any profit at all, and it felt like I wasn't making anything from my shop. Then I completed my stock and realized that my shop value (upgrades and stock) had gone from 3M to 50M. So if you're in the category for the long term, go for it, and stock the WC's. But if you're not sure you'll stick with it, don't bother. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~
