Why Swear
Gotta say I love this neomallers site but one thing that really disappointments me is all the swearing. I know there are children that come to this site and to see the language that goes on gets under my skin and I know I am not the only one. Would neopets allow it I DONT THINK SO I find it very offensive and I guess it just shows their lack of maturity

Agreed. It is a public forum site that many kids do come to.. mine included and should be stamped out *complain*

I completely agree with this. I think I've said something similar before, but I just don't think it's necessary. I'm not saying I don't swear, but it's usually not intentional. When you're typing, you're thinking of everything you're putting so, to me, you are making a concerted effort to swear on a forum. ------------------------------------------------------- http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=triciaroo

I agree. I also hate people who bash each other in any forums, sites, etc. I mean, c'mon, take your anger somewhere else. WOW! Selling: Maps, Neggs, Stamps, Coins, Cards, ETC! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=1434sweet#p

I let the odd word slip here and there by accident, can't be helped as a teenager I swore a lot in RL (like many do) I'm in my early 20's now and am slowly fading it out LOL. I think a lot of it is down to your own background. I was brought up in a family where my dad swears constantly. However on the other side of things my mum is highly offended by swearing and claims to have never sworn in her life. I'd say that's typical of England to find many of both spectrums. I then moved to Sweden last year and was shocked to see how relaxed they are about swearing here. It's really no big deal at all. Therefore a summary of my waffle is, in different countries different words are acceptable to different extents so some people may not see what they are saying as wrong. That said, swearing is only acceptable to a certain extent on this site, and it's down to individual mods to make decisions and change peoples posts and in severe cases issue warnings etc. If you ever see something offensive on this site always feel free to submit a report and whichever mod sees the report first will deal with it how they see fit. ___________ Kirsty aka "the sensitive one" Silverdragon siggy stealer Tasty tent seller

Yeah, I can see what you're saying with that, Kirsty. I guess it is partly a cultural thing, but I think everyone is aware that it can be offensive to some so it would be respectful to try and keep the swearing to a minimum. In all honesty, I don't think I've noticed particular members that do it regularly, unlike on some forums, but I have noticed a few instances lately, and I'm assuming Sales has too. I accept that most people just don't think about the fact that others might not appreciate the language, but maybe when people see this topic, they'll think a little more :) ------------------------------------------------------- http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=triciaroo

I think I know which incident triggered this topic as I saw a post earlier this morning myself which made my eyebrows raise a little. ___________ Kirsty aka "the sensitive one" Silverdragon siggy stealer Tasty tent seller

If you find something offensive, please use the report button. That's what that button is for since we can't constantly moderate all areas of the forums.

If you don't want your kids to see swearing, then don't let them join neomallers *unsure* Seriously, step up and start paying attention to their internet activity. If they want to chat, let them go chat on neo or in a kids' forum on yahoo. Just keep an eye out.

In my opinion, swear words are just words. I know it used to be considered 'bad' and all that, but not so much anymore. People saying the "F word" used to turn heads but now it's used regularly and when people swear, most people don't even notice anymore. I view this site as directed towards older teens and adults, not a kids site. When I see swearing I don't think of them as bad or anything, it's being used everyday and is part of speech now. EDIT: I am in no way defending swearing, I try not to because some people do find it offensive. I just don't think it's as bad as it used to be.
