Collectables better than Toys?
I only care about profit (and a little enjoyment). Is the "Collectables" category better than the "Toys" category in the terms of... 1) Profit? 2) Effort to restock? 3) Enjoyment? or vice versa? Pls and thx.

You can't edit the first post? <.< Anyways.. feel free to comment if you think another category is more profitable. Cause my mall mates say Collectables is terrible. Quote from awesome mall mates, "I know the like 4 months ago Collectables is not a great category. There are a lot of 4 Mill ads with that open so you could get a ton of advertising there!" and "Collectables is probably the most unpopular category" - - - - - x - - - - - x - - - - - x - - - - - x - - - - - User Lookup http://www.neopets.com/userlookup.phtml?user=vw1282

I went from doing toys & plushies to doing collectables and everyone told me I'd regret doing so. And yet... I love, love, love collectables. Great profit, less of a hassle to restock and just an overall fun category. The strong point of this category is, without a doubt, stamps. They sell well and since many of them are fairly cheap, a lot of collectors will just drop by and get their collection started by buying them in bulk if you hold a good amount of them in stock. The collectable cards are also a good seller, mostly thanks to light faerie quests. Keep the prices reasonable and you'll get bookmarked =) Of course the category has it's downside like every other, the main flaw possibly being (TCG). They don't sell all that well and very few people actually bother to collect them BUT they're easier to snag on the SSW at low prices, which means that when they DO sell, it's at a greater profit most of the time. Also, the category doesn't seem to benefit as much from malls and NB ads. I guess it's not quite as popular and eye-catching as some of the other categories, even advertising returns poor results compared to every other category I've done. You've got to play it smart if you want to draw customers in, but once you figure it out, it's absolutely great! =D In my opinion, collectables is a great category if you want it to be great. Given the right amount of work, it can return a great deal of profit. I hope this helps! ..::Cerbie's Collectables::.. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=cerberus_neo

That did help :). I stocked stamps before. It does bring good profit. I had a relatively small shop back then and stocking stamps maxed out my max items so I was never able to experience stocking collectable cards. I'm now thinking towards Training, maps, luck, scratchcards. Anyone have experience with that? Maps I never did, so I wouldn't be able to judge how good it can be. I had a Neggs/Training shop for a while and my main issue with the later was the following: Mark training items up, be it only by a 100 NPs if you want, and they won't sell much. No one buys 'em in bulk unless they're the cheapest around and if you do price 'em to be under the wiz, blink and they're all gone. It might be better as a main market shop though, I wouldn't know. I eventually added luck to my Neggs/Training shop and was not impressed at all. Scratchcards weren't really selling and the luck merchandise was so, so. I didn't find it to be neither profitable nor fun, but that might have been me approaching the category wrong. Neggs, however... <3 Neggs. ..::Cerbie's Collectables::.. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=cerberus_neo

Another route I was looking at is PB, MP, and neggs. From reading on these forums, it seems that neggs are awesome.. but are PB and MP just as awesome? I don't want to waste time switching categories if it's not worth the trouble. I pretty much agree with cerberus_neo I have always sold collectables and it seen me get to MM in 12 months and shop size 834 in 20 months with NP's in my bank and 5m in my shares. I could now if I wanted to get to a size 900+ shop so yeah if you know how to work them you can certainly get good snipes and profits.. LOL Agreed about the (TCG's) Good profits but slow in selling even priced at lowest on the SSW. These are a item I do not care if I have the item in stock.. I just keep the out of stock in my portal and when I can be bothered check the SSW for any bargain, grab it and price at low SSW

Collectables do need a reasonable amount of items at SW prices... If you know how to price to your letter column you will do ok.. The good thing where I make a lot of profit is that many users cannot be bothered doing a lot of searches and if you get some serious collectors come in they will sometimes buy 40 to 50+ items at a time.. unlike a lot of other categories where they may buy 3 or 4 at a time as that is all they are after.. My best shop till day has been 5.4m but as I said it is not a category to ignore SW buyers Being reasonably well priced can see you on some of the bigger shops bookmarks as well... I tried Neggs, MPs & PBs for a while too (Yeah, I know, I need to make up my mind and pick something already :P) and it is still one of my favorite categories today. Neggs sell very well and it's not uncommon to snipe them a few thousands under the SSW. You can play around easily with the prices on PBs and MPs to maximize your profits. They may not sell in bulks but each sale holds greater profit than your average category and they do sell fairly well. The downside? Well first, the stock is -very- expensive. With your average paint brush being worth around 50K each, it adds up pretty quickly. It's also a small category, so not much variety. Some people get bored with it because of it. However, small and expensive category means easier to restock. It's all about the profit. ..::Cerbie's Collectables::.. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=cerberus_neo
