Seasonal Shops?
Ok. So I'm thinking of adding Seasonal to HRP to get rid of Gifts and combine PBs and Mps with medicine. I am also thinking of taking the seasonal shop from petpets. I'm not happy with petpets. It's too slow. No business. HOWEVER. I'm not sure about this. I thought I would ask for some advice :D 1. How hard is the upkeep, and changing from holiday to holiday and season to season? Can I do this with a child AND a part time job? Plus managing two malls (with help from my council)? 2. How well does everything sell if stocked well and taken seriously? Does it sell well if you are very motivated and stock what should be stocked?

Seasonal shops are not that good in my opinion. I feel you'll be wasting your time. :/ It just be like your petpet category. ----------------------------- NEW MAIN MARKET MALL! Click here to view openings!!

Well I run a seasonal shop, so I can tell you anything you want to know. First off, what NO ONE seems to understand (or at least most people) is that seasonal shops have the most hits in December. While summer is the busy season for most shops Oct.-Jan. is very busy for seasonal. We just don't tend to get a lot of hits in the summer. As for the questions: 1. How hard is the upkeep, and changing from holiday to holiday and season to season? Can I do this with a child AND a part time job? Plus managing two malls (with help from my council)? This depends on the season. During Christmas it gets a bit hectic, but overall it's fairly simple. Btw, you mentioned that you weren't getting many hits from petpets, which is a bit surprising. I've always thought petpet shops are very busy. I guess Leah has tainted me. XD But anyway, I think it just depends. Personally, I enjoy changing all my stock every month or so; it's just kind of refreshing. You do need to put a few good days in it though for every season/holiday...like picking a good background (which most seasonal shops are allowed to have in malls) and getting the correct stock. As long as you have a few days to use changing stock every month or two, you should be fine. Also, (as most seasonals do) you can buy the items ahead of time and stuff them in your SDB. For example, Christmas items are much cheaper in May, so you'd buy a lot of the items then for maximum profits. 2. How well does everything sell if stocked well and taken seriously? Does it sell well if you are very motivated and stock what should be stocked? That depends on the mall your in and the shop size you have. In general (even in December) seasonal just does not bring in as many hits as say books or food. It also depends on your prices. You really can't inflate too much in seasonal shops. But to tell you the truth, I really do love doing the shop. I don't plan to ever change categories (or pair up on another). I love that we can change our stock frequently and theme around the season as opposed to stocking the same everyday. For me, I make about 10k-20k a day during the summer, and about 50k-80k during the winter. I'm size 273 and in The Nursery Malls. You can also pair up with another category, which is what many seasonal shops do. Although I personally don't have much respect for shops that do that, (just one of my pet peeves) it can bring in more np for you. It's really personal preference. If you're out for the np then seasonal isn't the wisest choice. However if you're really into holidays like me, you may want to try it out. Also, I feel it necessary to mention that MANY malls have a vacant seasonal shop spots. It's not the most popular category, which is why a number of malls don't carry it at all. Hope I helped a bit. Good luck. XD

Completely agree with soldier. They dont get that much profit I guess in my opinion ~ even worse than the Petpets. BTW, Paint + MP + Medicine is imbalanced. Paint + MP usually makes it really good by itself. _______________________________________________ Bugsy's GUIDE to Effective SHOPKEEPING and MALLING: Version 3: Learn More About Hut Positioning http://www.neopets.com/~bugsy_lenny

I agree with Beholder/fluffy. Listening to Leah, (because Nursery Malls members lives include spending all day on the recruitment board...) she seems to make a big amount of profit and receives a ton of hits. Seasonal, I've never tried, but if you have a big MM shop and only stocking seasonal, it may be difficult to sustain enough profits to upgrade a few times a month. Thanks beholder! I think i'm going to give it a try! I'm tired of petpets :P The hits are not great for me. I do have prices inflated a bit, but the way I look at it, I can't do much worse than I am now :P PB & MP is actually extremely hard to fill. The categories are so small, even with me allowing all members in HRP to stock training items. That's why i'm adding medicine with it. I think that category needs some extra help. I'm at a size 604, going to hit main on August 4th. So maybe I would be ok with seasonal :) Thanks for the input!

I would still like more input though, so if anyone else has a seasonal shop or has run one (and given the shop all they had), please post!

I'm a SAHM and wasn't able to keep up with a Seasonal Shop. In the summer is one thing, but in the fall you have Back to School, Halloween/Fall, Thanksgiving/Fall, Christmas/Winter, quickly followed by Winter/Valentine's Day, then Easter/Spring, and finally Summer. It's a super fun category if you have the time to do it right. I was also managing a multi-branch mall at the time though too...

PBs and MPs is small and hard to fill. Have you considered calling it just Magic? PBs and MPs are considered Magic anyways, and it expands stock options.

I liked petpets and the profits from them. Don't know why everyone else has a problem with them *unsure*
