CGers + google chrome?
I use google chrome, and in an incognito window it doesn't grab ANY data, meaning that you will not collect any cookies, is that a safe method? Or will they still be able to grab my data?

I'm going to have to start reading up on how cookies are stored and grabbed by external sites, aren't I *lol* Maybe I'll ask the 'web guru' who works across the hall from me, his kids have (but probably never use) Neo accounts too :)

Yeah. The whole thing about Google chrome incognito is that it doesn't even store cookies in the first place, so can they steal them if they're not being stored? Although, I can't say it doesn't store them at all, I just know they cease to exist when you close the window. So, I really don't know if that will work. I <3 Google chrome anyways =) http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=grimeblotter My cheap little book shop

I always use google chrome incognito when on Neopets. It does store your cookies but deletes them after you close the incognito window. I get this when I press CTRL + SHIFT + N ------ You've gone incognito. Pages you view in this window won't appear in your browser history or search history, and they won't leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved, however. Going incognito doesn't affect the behavior of other people, servers, or software. Be wary of: Websites that collect or share information about you Internet service providers or employers that track the pages you visit Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys Surveillance by secret agents People standing behind you ----- There's more info here: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95464&hl=en-US ^

Cookies need to be stored SOMEWHERE, even if it's just in memory, or you won't be able to stay logged into Neopets at all, which would be sad. Of course, I only have a rudimentary knowledge of cookies (I wrote my own years ago for class, but that's about as far as we went into it). Of course, the next classes I want to take are about viruses and malicious software, so that should be fun :K And vw is confusing me by changing avies again *lol*

Would that be considered a website that collects information about you? I don't know. =/ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=grimeblotter My cheap little book shop

There are LOTS of ways that web sites collect information about you, too many to list here (as simple as 'Fill out this form with your name' to as complicated as 'What is the unique fingerprint of this users browser/browser version/ad-ons/ad-ons versions/etc'). It gets scary when you know how tricky sites are in tracking users. But THAT isn't what we need to worry about with Cookie Grabbers. At the same time, make sure you use a different password EVERYWHERE. I use 'Keypass' (specifically Keypass Portable on a USB key), which is a nice utility to store your passwords, and has a random password generator built in.

My passwords are all different, but closely related, and I do as you do, with key pass on a memory stick. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=grimeblotter My cheap little book shop

If it really did use NO cookies, then every time you clicked on a page, you would be logged out since cookies are what register that you are logged in and have not yet ended your session. So yes, there are still cookies to steal. --- From the land where Funny is a smell and Peachy is an emotion...

I bake my own cookies, and eat them before anyone steal them. *oui* Kidding aside, FF can do the same thing by deleting cookies every time you close the window. And always watch out for people lurking behind you :o
