Hi, I recently killed my laptop and am temporarily playing on an old desktop. For some reason I can't install the latest version of the portal (I have XP service pack 3) but I do have a working version 4.2 of the portal on here.
My question is whether I am wasting my time re-creating my database in 4.2 - will I be able to transfer the data when I get my laptop back? I killed the hard drive, so I'm going to have to start from scratch anyway. Thanks.

what error are you getting when you try to install? And portal 4.0 is unsupported (it also cannot be upgraded to 10.0 or imported into the web portal) and it had some issues with databases hiccuping every now and then.

I'm not getting an error. It just freezes on the install window - let it sit for an hour yesterday and it was just a blank window showing no progress. My computer sucks.
Edit: Attached a screenie though yesterday it was just a blank window and didn't say "not responding" or "copying files, please stand by."
Maybe I'll try letting it run for 2 hours tonight =P

ok. i will try that. i thought maybe it was my antivirus. thanks.
edit: it's still doing the same thing. i might ditch my current antivirus/firewall and just get the free ones. a lot of things don't seem to be working right on my computer since i updated to their latest release. so, maybe i will try again after that.
