You know, my problem is people who sell things for way less than their value. I've seen people post "Buy this. You will make 20,000 nps profit." But then they have about 50 of that items priced at 60,000 nps each. And there is no demand for that item. What they don't realize is that by hogging so many resources they are actually devaluing the item and getting less nps for it. Other people with that item will post for lower and lower than 60,000 nps while that first person is still stuck with 50 of them. My example: I was doing well, selling Neo Tacos at 800 nps each, which were the low prices at the time. Then one person had 20 of them in their shop for 620 nps each and lots of people started selling them for 600 nps each. Yes, if someone was to buy all those tacos quickly, the seller would make a profit, but they also just cut the profit margin drastically for those who were already selling them at average low of 800 nps. So what did I do? I bought all those tacos. I did not want my profit going away. *lol* And it took me a few weeks, but I was able to sell them all and make a nice profit. If people want to sell things cheaper than the average/low, that's fine with me. Just don't make a dent in the market! Sorry. Just had to get that out of my system.

If marking up would be illegal then no one would use their shops anymore. Just for selling items that they get from dailies and REs. Not fun BTW the overpriced man is very funny lol

TNT has said many times in editorials that overpricing items is perfectly okay as long as you don't get a group of people together and encourage them all to do it
You know, my problem is people who sell things for way less than their value.
I couldn't agree more! I have started sending these people mail with the SSW price and explaining what they have done. (I also ask if they want a Premium referral, :)) My subject line is, "I'm the Shop Faerie". My messages are about helping them make more nps instead of yelling at them for messing up the market. Everyone has been really positive about my mail (appreciative even) and a couple even said they'd never thought of it that way before and they stopped doing it. I think it's an education issue. My example is someone who had 10 novas in their shop for 1,000 -- I sell mine for 1,650 most of the time. Of course I waited to send the e-mail until after I bought all of his, LOL! :) ~ Mimi _____________________________________________________ Mimi's Ménagerie: Healthy Tastes Good Here! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons

I agree the people that lower their prices because it's just a single item they happen to have a lot of, and now just want them gone, they devalue to item and make those who keep steady prices hurt from the loss they will have to take to remain at the average low. I notice this with dubloons often. One day someone will release 50-100 dubs in their shop for like 300 less than SSW and then to match/beat them others will drive it down and before you know it the item it worth like 500nps less than it used to be. And is hoarding all of a single item to try and gain a monopoly on it against the rules? I often wondered about that.

pff same problem here... people don't get that some items are very expencive! Someone mailed me today that my shop was too expencive and that I need to put my prices lower... And after that, the person asked to set some trades up... N00Bs!

What I hate is that I get stuck with gourmet foods all the time. There are 4-5 items that have lost value in a huge way overnight. Each was about 5K and then all of a sudden they are 100 - 500 np. I don't know if Tarla is responsible or what happened. I never know what to do when that happens, buy more and hope the price returns or just keep what I have and hope the price returns. With food people don't look to see if it's gourmet and many don't know how to check to see if it's gourmet...so they just stick it in their shops for whatever or when they look it up on SW they don't know that it used to be a 5K item before today. If Tarla gives out 100 Dubloon coins (like last year) they know it's special and they will put it in their shops and you can scoop them up cheap but the price will eventually return on them. Key Quest is killing wearables, books and stamps! -- luckily codestones have maintained most of their value and it's helping restockers get better deals on them than in the past. ~ Mimi _____________________________________________________ Mimi's Ménagerie: Healthy Tastes Good Here! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons

cluedoke, if you are doing it on your own and spending your own nps, I don't think it's against rules to try to gain a monopoly, but unless it's a rare item to begin with it'll be hard to do. I just think monopolies aren't smart for any market, real world or Neo. I mean, if I really need 5 doughnuts, then the person selling 100 of them will make some money. But if that's all they're selling? Not much else. I don't think anyone can afford to be too niche on Neo. Variety brings in more customers and more sales. After all, not everyone wants doughnuts. temps_bons, I understand what you mean as I sell food, too. It really hurts to see prices for an item come down like that. Thanks for reminding me to check if something is gourmet first. It's nice of you to neomail those people and let them know. Because yes, sometimes people just want fast nps and don't realize they're driving the market down. If they be patient, they can actually make more nps.
