The "restructuring" of TNT: Thoughts?

As some of you may know, much of the TNT original staff was let go. To put it simply in one sentence, all i can say is "What were they even thinking" Personally, i think we pretty much lost the essence that makes neo neo.

The only upside i can think of is they did it to wipe out whatever was causing the site to remain stagnant but that's really hopeful thinking. With the lag that seems to be around for such a long time and the staff being let go, it really looks like they're cutting back on the investments in the site (cutting out servers, staff, etc) At least in terms of web hosts, many go through these phases of downsize before being assimilated into the parent company.

The original host providing us service was the case. Our performance continued to drop until it was eventually folded a year or so later.

From the post you referenced on Jellyneo, the impression I get is that the creative staff is who were cut. So...yeah...the essence of Neo will fade away. sad And that is very sad. Fresh blood with fresh ideas may not be a bad thing, business-wise. But it will definitely result in a site that's barely recognizable to anyone returning after a long hiatus...and that's a shame.

Neo has created a sense of continuity for so many people as they transitioned from childhood and teenage into adulthood. I think the familiarity and nostalgia of Neo is what brings people back and gets them reinvolved on a more intricate level. That continuity was possible ONLY because, with each business transition Neo made, the creative staff was kept on to keep the Neo essence intact.

I'm not sure I believe David Lord regarding his commitment to Neopets (especially since he fired the heart of the site). But I do know, this past couple days, I've noticed some goings-on that make me think someone at JumpStart is trying to figure out what to do about the problems we're having. The disappearance and reappearance of the Stock Market and Sales History; the issue with the Premium Notification Bar that seems to come and go. Somebody is experimenting with Neo features...hopefully to remedy the lag and eventually fix other issues.

I think we're still a long way from getting a fully-workable site and that workable site may have a completely different focus from what we've all grown to love about Neopets. But I'm trying to stay positive.

sad I find it a bit suspicious that we have had several downtimes in the past 6 months that seemed to accomplish nothing. So JumpStart fires most of TNT, schedules a downtime for 5 days later and suddenly the site is working faster.

Granted, the increased site speed is currently at the expense of user lookups and sales history glitches and probably several other features that require a lot of server space. But I can't help thinking that JumpStart deliberately withheld resources from TNT to make them fail and therefore justify getting rid of them. And, in turn, make JumpStart seem like heroes. sad

lookups have been gone for some time though.. and things usually speed up for a bit after downtime.. then slowly the lag creep back little by little.

Going forward, i wonder if we actually might see a difference between the old tnt team and whatever is in place now. The essence of the old TNT was kinda already lost before the Jumpstart transition though. (Events became recycled and much of the focus was on NC)

It seemed as the lag initially was gone but I was sad to see that today it seems to be back & with the Faerie Quest being over shouldn't it be faster?

I do not know there are pro's & con's to both situations but I fear long term this is going to be a giant con. Who is there fixing tickets now?

Sadly we did not even have a chance to say good bye even if we had grudges towards some @ work there is nothing worse then loosing a job like that, it sounded as though they walked in & we shown the door.
