Might be a dumb question, but I'm curious

I just began to use the Portal today (for the first official time) :) I was submitting my shop front and then I went to "manage stock." Let's say I clicked on "Fire Fondue" (just an item in my db). Of course, the bottom changes to the whole "Buy at: _____ Sell at: _____ x1.5 ++ In stock: ____" etc. In the "Buy at," it says I should enter the price I bought it at since my profits would be based on this value. If I enter 2000 as the price I bought it at, and I sell it at 2850, the profit is 850. But what if the next time I go to restock Fire Fondue, I buy it at 2200 or 1900, not at 2000? I almost never end up restocking my items at the same price so do I have to keep on going back & changing the "Buy at" price so my profits can be accurate? I can imagine this process of going back to change the price becoming very hectic as I add more items to my shop stock. Do all the portal-users go through this or am I missing something?

I just put the average and won't change it unless the average changes a lot.

I take the average to. But it's time consuming to take the average of 17 alabriss in the SDB (which the number is taken from a spreadsheet) then combining with the average of 13 alabriss in the shop. and then deleting 17 entries in the spreadsheet :P ------------------------------- See my new screenie petpage? Tedious as it sounds, it's necessary to get accurate profits. I average out the cost with a calculator if I buy items that I have in stock. In the summer, I wasn't paying attention and I bought an item at 9999 but accidentally put my bought @ price at 99999. Every time I sold the item it was tracking a loss. All i do to keep track of profits is to record how much np I have in hand and how much is in my shop till from the last time i restocked. Then I restock all the items again up till the last item that was sold. Then I calculate: Shop Till - (NP on hand before-Np on hand afterwards) = profits gained. This tells me the exact profit gained to the np and is very easy to do. You just have to keep emptying your shop till every time. ____________________________________ Looking for a new mall? But then I can't keep track of what stock I'm missing if I wanted to take a really long hiatus or something so I decided I'd keep track of my stock using the Portal:)

When I had an insanely huge category (all furniture and garden) I didn't bother to enter the buy at price, it would've taken me forever to stock my shop. I would never be done. With just V2 it's a piece of cake :P

Anyways,, reinstall neomallers portal with a fresh directory.
