Hits will give an idea of how well that particular shop is doing against other malls with the same category. BUT it is not conclusive since many factors such as wiz pricing, for example must be taken into account
But generally speaking, hits are proportional to the hut exposure/positioning as well as other sources of exposure like noticeboard ads, for example.

haha. Well i suppose you could check how long they;ve been malling, the age of the mall, their graphics, shop size, hits to some degree vs others in the same category of similar size, etc

Not that we need any more proof that hits vs. sales vs. profit are not necessarily related:
07/05 51 hits, 52 items sold totaling 169,768 NP (1.02 sales per hit, 3,200 per sale)
06/05 77 hits, 33 items sold totaling 164,663 NP (0.43 sales per hit, 5,000 per sale)
05/05 39 hits, 9 items sold totaling 172,987 NP (0.23 sales per hit, 19,200 per sale)
04/05 45 hits, 84 items sold totaling 507,512 NP (1.9 sales per hit, 6,000 per sale)
03/05 40 hits, 15 items sold totaling 44,044 NP (0.38 sales per hit, 2,900 per sale)
02/05 91 hits, 42 items sold totaling 162,830 NP (0.46 sales per hit, 3,800 per sale)
So, in 6 days, both hits and sales were all over the place.
Not only that, but the day with 9 items sold (and the least hits) was the 2nd most profitable day (and most profitable by percentage, at 422.7%). Selling RSs throws off other averages :)
Other methods are very different too. Some categories just outperform others quite regularly (so all other things being equal, for example, a Petpets shop will do better than Collectibles).
Return customers: Out of 886 total customers so far, 119 have returned, This is about 13.43%.
Certain categories will have a much higher return rate than others too. A FQ item shop will probably get a lot of SW hits, but not a lot of return customers. Petpets probably doesn't have a very high customer return rate (and they don't need it :) ). I sell books, so my return customers are a higher percentage than many other categories.
Pages of Stock: Maps and Codestones get good hits, but probably has much less unique stock than say Packrat and Random.
It probably takes an experienced maller to really compare different shops in the same mall to see how they're doing.

Is it just me that always finds your sales posts annoying? You are always happy to boast how much you have sold, however my question always remains, how much is profit ;) ANYONE can wiz price and get stats as such

Heh, I didn't post profits either, but I thought it would be rude to do so :)
The days I posted had profits ranging from 17.61% (the day with 15 sales), and 422.7% (the day with 9). As I said before, RS sales can really throw the numbers off. On regular items I may make 10-40%, but RSs really jack the number up!
Also, there is a point when you DON"T want more sales anyway, and I already hit that. I had a couple days at 144 hits, with a lot of SW priced sales, and I just couldn't keep up restocking. Everyone needs to find their own sweet spot when it comes to that.
edit: Today I have _85_ hits already, and only 28 sales. I've had a few strange days like that. Today the bulk is from SW (71), where some days I've had 40-50 'other' hits, and almost no sales from the additional traffic. Always makes me curious as to what is really going on (large malls RS'ing and 'marking' my shop on each search, but getting the book cheaper elsewhere? some other strange occurrences?) So, yea, hits on their own mean very little, but are useful to watch trends, see if your NB ads are generating traffic, etc etc.
I don't make that much from malling. :P Most people would be able to tell from my non-MM mall, # of hits, and account age though. I'm not in any 4mil NB ads either, so that doesn't help.
I have no idea what happened on Wednesday. o_0
