What do you look for in a NB ad?
Most specifically, what do you look for in an AD you might or might not place your shop in? (did I make sense?) I took a look back around 3 or 4 pages and saw nothing alike so I figured we could discuss... A few topics that I came up with would be - Pretty/flashy/attractive banner - Good/fair price - Larger or smaller buttons (depending on how much you can pay and how much attention you want) - Trustworthy person collecting the fees - Known person - Known ad - Ad usually on the top of first page - Peek day (week days, weekends, etc) Also would it irritate you if 2 buttons were larger than everything else, but those people also payed a lot more? (let's say, 18 buttons at 155k and those 2 extra at 300k) I'm sure you can see that I am considering to set one up, eventually (definitly not now or anytime in the next month, but eventually), so I'm gathering information XD But also I think it's an interesting thing to discuss...

The things I look for in an ad are these, in order from most important to least -Person posting MUST have experience and a good track record of getting top often (therefore trustworthy kinda goes in line with this too) - Banner... yeah i'm major picky with banners Other than that, not too bothered, since I am so particular over those two points I rarely need to worry about anything else, since if the ad fits the above everything else is usually good too such a prices. Price variation due to button size wouldn't be a problem to me, I think that sounds a great way to lower costs actually. Spots such as wearables and paint can usually do great from ads, but other categories suffer, so that could work. The only worry i'd have with that system is if the other buttons would draw in the eye of shoppers or whether 99% of them would go for the two big buttons

I pretty much agree with Kirsty. If there were two very large buttons, I might be selective as to which categories I even bothered to put on the ad as smaller buttons. Some categories just don't do well on ads with equal size buttons much less on an add where most of the focus would instantly be drawn away from them. You DON'T need to put every single mall category on each NB ad. You only need the ones that people will pay for.

~ May ~ I see that *nods* Yeah I'm aware the "experienced poster" thing would definitly be an issue if I ever wanted to start one since, exactly, I would be starting XD And the big buttons came from the fact that I didn't get many clicks being "dark faerie" only on a nb ad. -I- thought it was good, but it didn't pay for my costs.. x.x' And I don't think toys would be that looked for anyways (when I see people here saying they got 100, 200 or more clicks from nb ad? I got.. 40 or so on peak day)... I understand your concerns about the big buttons and it makes perfect sense.. *hums* But I guess it depends more on the colouring and such of the ad than on the placement and size of the buttons (unless they are like 1/3 of the ad XD).. The actual size of each of those two would be around double a normal one.. So that's not even that much, considering they would pay double, it's the same as taking 2 buttons for one person XD

Besides what was already mentioned, I think having an appropriate ad is crucial. You have to know your audience and what appeals to them visually. As far as the buttons - it's kind of funny. I have half the people who love my ad because the buttons are big & thank me for it. I have the other half asking me to either make it 20 button sizes or start up another ad with smaller buttons. Lol.

Yup same with kirsty. I went on a badly designed graphic and even though that person got first, sales were terrible x.x Edit: Oh yeah, I'm on vacation so you saw this post in your dreams. It's not real.

~ May ~ So, I was on Jaspeh's ad, and I find it pretty and well designed and all... But I got like 40 hits on the day before peak (the ad was in 3rd place) and 50 or so when it went on peak Should this be atributed to the fact that I was Dark Faerie only and not toys? Or was it prolly a bad luck week? If I got "toys" would that change? Anyone has any ideas? since I'm kinda noobish on the subject :P

I'd say thats pretty decent considering the button. Most people are going to be clicking on toys and not on the quest buttons, it also doesn't help that toys isn't that popular a spot even when all combined together into one person. I used to do fire faerie on her friday ad, can't remember how many hits I used to get from it, but I wasn't so bothered anyway. I paid for that button weekly without worrying about profits because I figured it was the kind of exposure that would lead to bookmarks a plenty.

I know for a fact some people bookmark me cause I keep my stuff wiz-priced and have lots of the usuki cheap-o stuff that people buy first for galleries and such (it's kinda cool to see someone's gallery and see they bought it all from you xD) Altho now, with her new ads, I'm paying only 70k for the faerie button and I think I can definitly make that from the NB hits in the top 2 days... Of course the plan is to take over toys too, but not right now as I'm trying to reach spooky market... 25 sizes away :P *sigh* Thanks for the information everyone, it's pretty much what I thought, but confirmation is always nice :P
