Q about Portal Profiles

Q about Portal Profiles
1) Can I rename a profile that already exists? Would I just go to the profile folder and rename there? Or is there a way to do it through the program itself? 2) Can I make a copy of my profile? So my current profile is Training/Luck. But I will be adding and removing new items. I sort of want to keep my old Profile. But if I make a brand new one, I'll have to start from scratch, adding each item (and the sales history and such starts over too). So can I copy/paste my profile folder, and rename it to my new categories? Will it take all of the items/sales history/etc with it, so I can continue working from the old ones? Or will that way potenitally screw things up? Thanks =)

Yes and no. You can rename the folder you also have to rename the settings file which is usually your profile name. For example, if you profile name is called training, inside it is a file called training.ini that file would also have be renamed to the new name. In portal 7, if you renamed it without changing the filename as well, you would corrupt in your entire database. In portal 8, the DB files are self contained and you would lose only your settings/options but it's still best to rename that file too. Hope this helps

Alrighty thanks, so for renaming, Ill just make sure to rename both. And for making a copy? Can I copy/paste the folder and then on the copy, I can rename both files, and everything should stay intact?

Another question, cause Im curious but I dont wanna make a new board :P If I say that I bought an item for 5k, but then it sells in my shop for 4k, will it say I got -1k profits?

oh yeah it will :P When i was selling out my shop, i accidentally pasted it in once and i ended up with a negative difference x.x Portal 8.1 (unreleased) limits the prices at 5 digits so you cant accidentally type in 470000 when you meant 47000, etc

okay, thanks for the info. I want to SW price and sell some luck items that will be leaving my shop, but it seems like a good amount of them have deflated since I bought them! very lame :(

Question again! I decided I wanted to make a new profile for my new category. Im going to start over as far as customers and sales history etc are concerned. But I would *prefer* to copy over the items DB instead of entering them all over again. So in the interface, I made a new profile. Then in my computer files... I was looking at what I could copy from my old profile into my new profile, to keep the items. So I was gonna copy these items... db_shopstock (folder) ss2 (folder) shopstock.db shopstock.txt Dmitri, would that be going about it the right way? Is there anything else I should copy (or shouldnt have)? Thanks!!

all you need is the db_shopstock folder (at least i think so anyways!) . The rest are leftovers from the old database format.
