Out of category pricing help
Just wondering which of the following you think is the most effective for selling none wearable items (ie dailies junk and rs items) in a wearable shop. I've sold wearables as a lone category for over a year now, and during most of that time i've kept my shop strictly wearables only. However it's driving me a little crazy trying to sell buyable restocks via trades and auctions, and my sdb is overflowing with dailies crap. Here is my two choices 1) As of right now I decided to just have a note in my shop saying occasionally I sell none wearable items in here please mail if you have any doubts as to what is wearable. 2) I was considering a pricing system, so if it ends in 9 it's wearable, anything else isn't wearable. Thing is sometimes my shop will only have wearables in it, so i'm worried that this would make my prices look artificial. Does anyone have any feedback as to what they have tried or what they would prefer to see if they were in a shop looking themselves?

Our clothes shop also stocks items that are nonwearable, so she just marks all items that ARE wearable by pricing them with a 1 as the last digit in the price. *shrugs* ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~

Yeah I can understand people doing that when they are always selling both as part of their category, but on the whole i'm a strictly wearables only shop, just need to dump dailies crap and the odd buyable rs which is why i'm so torn on what would work best. My boyfriend did also suggest me simply not saying anything, don't state everything is wearable obviously, but don't mention anything about items not being wearable, so I guess this makes a good third option for people to comment on also. ___________ Kirsty, aka evil super mod Sniper, maller, restocker Silverdragon siggy stealer Best wearables shop owner ever!

I can understand why you're worried about labeling things that are specifically wearable since people might get mad if they buy something that they think is but really isn't. But since your shop is strictly wearables all the time, I don't think you need to change your prices to reflect that. That would take a lot of time. I occasionally stick things in my shop at SW price that are non-categeory. I have food and bakery, though, so I doubt people would be mad about not being able to eat a petpet lab map. I would say, don't say anything and just stick maybe about 15 non-category items in your shop a day at wiz price. This will bring you some extra traffic and also ensure that the items sell quickly. Yes, don't say that everything in your shop is wearable and you'll be fine. I think stating that you do sell other items occasionally would only confuse shoppers.

I guess I could cars, would involve me trying to remember to price the not wearable items a certain price and to not price the wearable items that price. I'm liking the suggestion of just say nothing right now, and have changed my shop to that now. Would still like more opinions though. If worst comes to worst I guess I can try each method out over a period of a week and see if there is any drastic differences in my profits. ___________ Kirsty, aka evil super mod Sniper, maller, restocker Silverdragon siggy stealer Best wearables shop owner ever!

I think people would prefer to know the difference between wearable and non-wearable. If you want loyal repeat customers, it would be better to be upfront and tell them that some items cannot be worn. Pricing the non-wearable items differently should be an easy task since there should only be a small number of them added to your stock.

For now doing nothing isn't so terrible since many shops do not label wearables (unfortunately there is a learning curve with Neopets for better or worse). I think TNT must have designed it that way because with the exception of neohome v2 items you never know what an item does with any certainty until you have it. We are also talking about a very unlikely scenario that someone will buy something from your shop that isn't wearable and complain / be put off so much they never return to your shop. Anyway if you don't say EVERYTHING is WEARABLE then they can't really complain. My other opinion: I don't know who your customers are but if you get a lot of noobs then you need a sign that says prices ending in 11 (probably don't have many of your wearables that end in 11) are NOT wearable. For sanity I'd just leave this in all the time so you don't have to keep up with what's in your shop. As for dailies and free/almost free items -- I'd use them for a 1 np sale or as a thank you gift for repeat customers/super buyers. You can't imagine what a gift or thank you e-mail once in a while can do for repeat business! I would not however price a no-brainer item with the 11 like weapons, food, etc. that you may get in a RE or SHH -- only items that may be confused like shirts, toys, etc. _____________________________________________________ ~ Mimi's Ménagerie Avatars ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

I agree that labeling non-category items with a specific number is easier and will cause less confusion. It really does depend on how many items you have and how regularly you are planning on having them in your shop. I think if it's just occasionally, then you don't really need to have a disclaimer about non-category items. But I guess either way, it is helpful to buyers to know what's not wearable.
