Top Level Button or Middle of Banner Button?
Which is better for generating traffic to my shop so I can upgrade quickly: button on the top of a mall banner for a General Store other shops in the mall are size 190 - 391 or A middle of the banner button for a Food Shop? other shops in the mall are size 200 - 692 Both malls have MIA members on their banners :(

I have to upgrade to apply to either mall -- currently size 165 -- so now is when upgrading gets expensive so I don't want to be in a mall that doesn't give me traffic but wants NB ad fees weekly... otherwise I am just stealing from my upgrade pool. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

I'd say probably food, just working on what i've come across in my experiences. Our food shop, Bik, gets great exposure. Meanwhile I tried a general store spot on a nb ad, on a weekend, peak day, and didn't get many hits at all from it. Of course one is a mall banner and another is a nb banner, but I think it still helps serve as a comparison. Plus food is hot, many people in main market malls want food, so i'd say exposure must be pretty decent. I think too many people put emphasis upon placement on banner. I really don't think it to be an issue myself, so yeah, middle food is my choice. As for ads, i've taken a 2 week break from ads as it has been ages since i've not been on an ad. I must say so far i've noticed no difference at all in my sales/profits, well actually I had a raise in them, but that was hut position related too. My hits are lower, as to be expected, but very little or no difference in sales, so i'd say ads definately are not worth it to someone who needs the nps for upgrades. Only reason why I will continue to take part in ads occasionally is because I have the nps to put into ads if I want to as i'm pretty much done with upgrading. ___________ Kirsty, aka evil super mod Sniper, maller, restocker Silverdragon siggy stealer Best wearables shop owner ever!

Thanks! I love the flexibility of a general shop but I started in food, loved it and the profits were great because restocking in shops is so much easier for food (sometimes) than other shops. I have made the HUGE error of SSW stocking for Avatar items and have not made very much profit at all! I just can't snag most of the items in shops that are avatar items or don't have the patience to sit in the shop waiting on a restock! It will take over 2 million to upgrade which makes me nervous because that is half of my liquid savings. I can't upgrade like that and get stuck with a not-so-profitable category! ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

I've never really understood the role of a general store within a mall, because I would think that people would just go directly to the shop category they need. I am a huge fan of food shops as I'm a food shop owner myself. I was about size 200 when I switched to food. Previously I was selling gift items. I agree that it's so much easier to restock from the shops. I've even snagged a few UB items just doing regular restocking, and I'm not the best restocker. I've managed to upgrade about 225 sizes this year, mostly from profits. My upgrades were supplemented with stocks and selling a few off-category items I had stored in my SDB. Now I don't make millions a week, but my profits daily are about 50%, which I think is good.

Honestly I don't get it either since it would appear they would compete with every other shop in the mall...but maybe that's what they are calling packrat/random in their mall. Maybe newbies would like it too since it's all the basic newbie type items? I am happy for you and will not enjoy competing with you again because I remember seeing your name all over SSW! LOL!
