When I have images like the snowflakes that interfere a little with reading the words I create another layer that covers the whole background. The layer has a transparent color where you can still see the image but the words are easier to read. I have one of these layers on the example graphic I made on another thread: http://www.neomallers.com/files/Mayarend_banner%20idea.png .
