The different colors do different things. There's a discount when you're RSing from shops from one color, and double NP from game NP for another as well as more random REs. Sorry, I can't remember which colors do what, but I do enjoy the discounts and doubles.

The red beads give you the shop discounts and have been well worth it for me as i don't bother haggling for the cheaper items :D

I agree with the red beads if you don't haggle for the item, it can save you some neopoints.
