its pretty easy to do, I found my own images that I wanted and I went here: http://iconverticons.com/ once that is done right click on the desktop icon you want to change, go to properties, then customize, then change icon, and then you locate the .ico file and you're done, the recycle bin etc is a bit different, what you do for that, is right click anywhere on your desktop, go to personalize (its a little different for windows vista so you'll have to experiment a bit, but it generally follows the same steps), click on change desktop icons and click on the icon you want to change, and just locate the icon you want to change it to and that is it, I personally try and keep a folder labeled in my my pictures folder so that its easy to find any of my customs, but thats me. If you are using windows 7 you can save your custom desktop, and change it to something else, but then go back into your setting and have it revert right back, meaning you don't have to go back and redo everything all over again.

Oh it was a 3.1, but then it asked to be refreshed. Everything but the graphics went up two levels, and now its a 2.2 I think? So bad. Screw you Compaq!
oooh windows 7 :o it looks amazing :O I want to download the torrent, but I'm afraid something will go wrong, I'll lose all my files, and then can't install windows 7, and can't reinstall windows Vista. Not worth the risk :P
First of all, just with my experience installing windows 7, I did a clean install (kinda) and what it did, was it put all of my programs, documents etc, into a folder called windows.old, and now I'm able to go back and look at them etc, however I did find that my programs no longer worked which was a pain but to be expected.

okay, but now you all know how badly my computer sucks. ;) EDIT - um, whoa. how come my picture is over 2mb?
Whoa big icons :o PNG is pretty big. JPG in paint is just too crappy so yeah, you'd have to use photoshop or some other graphics editor like gimp to save it in good quality as jpg EDIT: my laptop isnt that great either. The Intel Core 2 Duo Processor came into being shortly after i bought mine (which is just simply intel core duo, luck of the irish), but at least it's centrino based. @demirep77 if you add more RAM, for example to 768 MB or 1 GB, it'll go much faster. Mine came with 1GB RAM, which is great for regular web browsing in vista/xp, but lagged like hell when designing heavy mall banner graphics (especially in vista), so upgrading it to 3GB helped tons. I didnt go to 4Gigs since intel core doesnt support 64 bit operating systems (which allows the comp to handle memory over 4 GB)
I've found that disabling aero aka desktop windows manager in the administrator services frees up alot of ram and cpu/gpu, if any of you need help doing this in windows vista or windows 7 let me know

I've got a ton of valuable software (and it was all legally downloaded *shifty eyes*) so I don't want to lose it all, just to have my computer run slightly faster, and look slightly different :P

If you don't mind me asking, how much is that kick ass machine going to cost? :P

Some of the parts i'm using ie the 1st graphics card and tower, and even some of the ram I'm taking from my old computers, the motherboard I'm buying ($89) is pretty new and supports up to 16 gbs of ram which most companies don't even offer mainly because anyone who even needs that much ram odds are can put it together themselves. The processor is $229, and if I actually go and buy 16 gbs of ram which i doubt it would cost another $200 per 8 gb, and then $150ish for the hard drive
