Are NB ads worth it? and text links...
Honestly, are they worth it? I've had a member complain that since we aren't going to do NB ads, that they refuse to stay in the mall. I personally think that they are a waste of money, especially since none of US (including her!) are nowhere NEAR *any* market place size. Also, the same person refuses to stay in the mall (and has since left!) because we don't have a mall banner. Are they really *that* important? I've had several people neomail me that they like the text links better. Also, none of other mall members have complained to my knowledge. I personally like the text links, because I can easily find what I'm looking for, without being distracted by the images and too many colors, and the backgrounds Oo;; Plus, the mall banners take a LOT longer to load... Just looking for some opinions...

As for NB ads, I wouldn't know what to tell you. my shop is only size 52 so I have no need to be in one, but it would be interesting to see what good it would do for my small shop. As far as the mall banner, I DO think it is a MUST! Banner set the personality of the mall. The banner catches the eyes of shoppers, good rule of thumb, the bigger and prettier, the better. Really. Honestly, I would not want to be in a mall that has no banner.

I think a mall with no banner looks kinda .. lazy xD Cheap, I dunno... About NB ads.. I was recently on my first PEAK nb ad and I got some awesome movement IMO. But I don't think shops any smaller would get decent movement - I just upgraded to 230 and I don't think anything under 150 would be worth a NB ad or even my size... I noticed I would've sold more, but I didn't have more, you know? I think it's silly for them to leave for no NB ads.. ~ May ~

Read this for more about the 4 MIL NB ad. I have a shop size 125, BTW. http://www.neomallers.com/node/1310 As for no banner, your shop just looks as if it has links in it which has a very different affect than a mall banner. If I found my way into your shop I would ignore those links because they just looked like comments... You may be distracted by the graphics (as am I, honestly I don't like 90% of the mall banners) but you have to remember all the kids that are playing that love them. Also, if you don't do well with letters and reading or you can't speak English very well the pictures help a ton. Basic rule of life is that there is a reason that people do/use the same kinds of things -- they work! Being an individual is sometimes cool and interesting but for the most part stick with what the most successful malls/mallers are doing because they have tried it all and have settled on what is the most effective. Build on the success of others instead of trying to "reinvent the wheel" as they say. _____________________________________________________ ~ Mimi's Ménagerie Avatars ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

I think a mall can work without notice board ads only if everyone wiz prices half of their stock. And a mall without a banner.... well, isn't really a mall in my opinion. I looked at your shop and i wouldn't have guessed you were in a mall if you didn't tell us. No one reads words. They look at stuff when they see pretty pictures that grab their attention.

Well depends on the graphics quality and button placement but usually yes. And text links will not suffice. You need graphics, good graphics to attract customers.

See, I think NB ads are COMPLETELY vital for smaller shops. I'm not in a market, so I can't get hut hits. Impossible. But my mall is active enough and successful enough to place on page 3 or 4 of the NB. I've gotten a lot of extra customers that way, and it pays for itself. My mall banner also gets me a lot of hits. Normally, about a quarter of my hits are from the mall banner, a quarter from my own shop ad on the shop ads board, a quarter from the NB ad, and a quarter from shop wiz. For a small shop, I turn a tidy profit, which goes into upgrades and better stock, which churns larger profit... I'd recommend any serious mall leader begin a banner and a NB ad.

I used to use the NB all the time for just my shop alone (not the mall) and it did work, IF I lucked out with the ad placement. I always shot for being on the last page (lowest) which is really cheap, but while your ad sits there it does bring in a lot of traffic. The problem is, that's a very popular spot, so it's constantly being juggled. You might be on the last page for half an hour, maybe 2 hours at the most. I used to place ads every few hours across several days and I could always tell when my ad hit that sweet spot. Of course, it goes without saying that you want a nice looking ad and you want it to link to your shop. Now my shop is larger and I'm in a better mall, so I really don't need to advertise. I don't know (never tried it), but I would think the middle pages on the notice board would be pretty worthless. ~ Love books?
