I agree with everything said here! They get by with it because they have tons of experience, are in a shop that gets at least 100 hits a day (I assume) because they and everyone in their mall is in the main marketplace. So that means that people don't find them through SW...they find them because they want to see the biggest/best shops. All of that being said it has been my experience that the larger my shop gets and the more people that come to my shop to buy SW priced items, (the more traffic in general) = I MUST charge higher prices. I want my items priced low enough to sell but high enough that someone doesn't just buy 200 items a day. I know my shopkeeping philosophy has changed over time too. When I had a size 50 shop I wanted someone to buy me out each day so I only made a little profit so I could get people into my shop through SW. Now with over 1000 spaces I don't want to sell 300 items a day at low profit. If I have to work that hard (and RS'ing 300 items a day is work) I want to make more profit on each item. The other piece of advice...do a lot of research into items that you can RS from Neopian shops (any shop)! If you stock wearables for instance there are some items that seem silly to stock because you will never make much profit like those satin collars. I know they are quest items but if someone is on a quest they can't use SW and you need to have quest items at all times so mark that price up. However, occasionally you will be able to snag items at Uni's Clothing that the mark-up will be in the thousands and price THAT one at SW prices not the cheap/no profit ones. That way people with real neopoints come to your shop who have neopoints so they can go a little crazy in your shop buying. Remember that huge shops with every item in a category have thousands of spots to fill so they are looking for items in their category to take up space. Your shop size is so small you ought to skip the gajillion quest items (malling at your size is silly) with very small profit and have a shop full of items that your mark up is 3 - 10K on each item. Use that 600K you have to buy the cheapest most expensive / awesome items that sell for thousands over what you pay for them so you can upgrade your shop to size 270++ at once. THEN join a mall if you have to because you'll have the space in your shop to fill with items that you don't care if it sells or not. Malling at your size is silly because the mall can dictate what you put into your shop. Say you sell books... there are so many quest books that you may only have space to stock quest items. Why limit yourself to books at your size? Sell anything and everything you can get your hands on with a huge mark up (at SW / TP prices). For instance, if you can get your hands on a 500 NP Bag of Peanuts from the food shop you can make 300K profit on that item. Isn't that better than trying to stick to a category and maybe never having time to rs in the food shop because all your time is spent in the book shop or whatever? Sorry I wrote so much but you seem to be confused still about what your goal is at your particular shop size. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc
No no, don't be sorry at all! Any and all advice is helping me out!! Again, as with Kirsty, I own my mall, so I get to dictate what I put in my mall. I often times sell off my dailies stuff (as part of the 20% thing) just to get rid of them. So, I might try to RS in some other shops for good snipes like those. However, I do like the advice you've given me, and shall try it out. I need to get my SSW back :S *** Grooming, wearables, backgrounds, clothes, Fire & Air Faerie Quest items! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=nioe_yemar&misc Owner of The Rainbow Fields Mall & Celestial Colours Guild!

I don't own my own mall ;) although I guess I am quite capable of twisting Dmitri's arm if need be so it's the next best thing ;) Basically the important thing is you should focus less on keeping blah blah blah in stock, and just stock for profit. So grab stuff cheaper than normal from anywhere and put in your shop for wiz price, that way you are getting the profits needed to get the upgrade np. ___________ Kirsty, aka evil super mod Sniper, maller, restocker Silverdragon siggy stealer Best wearables shop owner ever!

I being in a mall shop stock quest items and I use the shop wizard to buy them all. I am sure most mall members do the same thing so if you can price your items near top of SW they will sell and in bulk. I don't know about the rest of the mallers out there, but I am usually buying 3-4 of each item at a time. And it is true that some quest items are cheap and don't have a large profit attached, but if they get those mallers in the door and they see your name coming up in lists repeatedly it is quite possible they will go shopping in your store while they are there. And don't forget to snipe those under-priced items while you are using the wizard to price yours so that your name stays closer to top of all lists and not just yours.

Some items are much cheaper on SW than at the shop that stocks them. Where as others (the items I think she should stock) should only be bought in the shop that stocks them. When you are SW pricing your items (any item) you will always come across snipes, so yes, snag them. Sometimes when I price the item with SW I'll run across an item I can make a profit on but I would not suggest restocking from shop wizard unless you know you can make the profit you need on that item. I have moved 14 MIL in stock (over 9K items in 146 days) with only 5.5 MIL profit using SW instead of neopian shops. I need more than 64.56% profit to upgrade, advertise, save and stock quality items (maybe even spend some points on my pets). I buy 5-10 items at a time from the Neopian shops so I can SDB restock. No SSW/SW bans that way either. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc
That is true, when I was starting out I bought all my stock from the neopian stores and would snipe cheap stuff when I was pricing. You learn with time what items to go for and what to skip in those shops. I found that I could often negotiate a profitable price on those slower moving items though while I was waiting for the shops to restock. So I wouldn't necessarily ignore them while restocking, just don't go for them first. You can often get the price reduced below SW if you negotiate correctly.

I forgot to mention... One way I upgrade is by playing games.. In my game favorites I have 9 games that get me 1,000 NP each time I play x3.. So 9x3000 (9 games times 3,000; 1,000 NP for each send score of 3) That equals 27k. Practically that's a free upgrade a day, you could easily upgrade 7 times a week for each week day. And that's good because your not using your NPs to upgrade.. When your upgrade button hits more then 27k it'll take 2 days to upgrade and so on so forth.. I see this as an easy way to save profits and quick NP shop upgrades. (I hope you got this information, hard to explain sorta) _____________________ Please help me support my Training, Meds, Neggs shop! Click here ^ please make a purchase!

And until you get loads of practice, the items that ARE profitable go so quickly that you may never even see them stock unless you just camp out in the shop. Those items are the ones you should sell. I have TRIED to buy items in the grooming parlor for 20 months and I occasionally see some good stuff that I can make 3-10K profit on. But I have to be sitting in the shop and refresh right after it stocks or I'll only see what is left -- after about 20 seconds every great item is gone! ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc
