Rofl, if a few gossiping chat boards are enough to make you quit neo, chances are you were never much of a neo player to start with. :O The boards are really easy to ignore, and if you ban neomails, they can't follow you into the rest of neo... ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~
Maritimers tend to have an accent, especially Newfoundlanders. Maybe they are the ones that say abOOt instead of abOUt? I've never encountered anyone who pronounces it that way though. I say "eh" all the time... "I know, eh?" and the like. The same way in French (in Quebec anyway) I'd use "là" something like "Tu sais, là, que...". Sorta "I gotta, like, eat breakfast, and then like, brush my teeth like.". Doesn't really mean anything. And then french people speaking English and vice versa you'd generally hear an accent. I remember my father's girlfriend was trying to speak English and can't make the "th" sound so in heavy french accent said "I have to brush my teats" (teeth). Lol. There are people who speak both languages without any accent in either whatsoever though.
Newfoundlanders definitely do not say aboooot. ARGH I hate that haha. Newfoundlanders (aka Newfies) have more of an irish accent as we're irish descendants. I find that mainlanders speak more slowly (and mainlanders may find we speak too quickly!) Newfoundlanders tend to drop the 'h' sound and add it before vowels. Such as 'arry instead of Harry, and harm instead of arm. They also pronounce "th" without the h. Dad says "tree" for "three" all the time. Now I'm a 'townie' and speak more like a mainlander than people living in rural communities. I say "they" because I don't speak like that, though I do have a newfie accept and say newfie sayings :)

Also, I didn't realize all the drama that ensued after I read the post on Newfoundland and jumped at it. And we also say "hey" instead of "eh".... maybe it's because we add the h?? I always thought we just used the word hey.

haha i'm just exaggerating (abit). I live on the edge of Rexdale (which is Toronto so to speak) and i've had people bumping into me and look at me as if WTF is wrong with you.. and i was just minding my own business (and there's lots of room too!) Happens alot if you go to crappier stores (like the dollar store!)
