Malling etiquette

Because this site creates such easy access to contacting other mallers, I just wanted to start a discussion regarding some common courtesies that are generally expected when participating in a mall. By all means, feel free to agree/disagree or add to this no matter what your opinion may be. I myself am finding it frustrating when other mallers contact me to try and steal me away from the mall that I am currently in. For the most part, if someone is unhappy with the mall that they are in... they will probably be looking for you, no need to contact them... at least that is the way I see it. Another concern of mine is that so many people feel it unnecessary to contact their mall leader to inform them when they are leaving. It is not a very nice surprise to stop by a fellow mall members shop only to discover that you are linking to another mall. :( Feel free to add things that make you happy with people as well... I wouldn't usually leave things on a negative note but that is just sort of how my neo-day is going today and I'm tired. I'll add something with a smiley face tomorrow. :P

I have to agree with you both. The ONLY time I have ever sent an email to someone that is in a mall is if they have requested to be on our waiting list. If someone leaves I always make sure they put in their notice & leave on good terms, otherwise we do not want them in our malls. And yes most of the mall managers do talk to each other & we know when someone leaves on bad terms. At the same time we also help each fill the malls with good mallers. I'd also add don't slander other malls. Even if you don't like the way a mall is run, or the way one mall does something, I don't think you should try and ruin that mall's reputation to further your own..

Although it is indicated in our information page, its not as visible as the title and its headings. I totally agree...I do not neomail that I see in a mall unless they are on my waiting list. Paying NB fees on time without having to send reminders would be a miracle! Majority are really good but sometimes there is a few. Leaving I try to record how a member left and share it with fellow managers and if they really upset me I send notices to other mall managers that I know. I would like to point out that I am not upset with anyone in particular. I am not the type to hold grudges even if someone does do something that bothers me. I really just wanted to create this thread so that people might take these things in to consideration in the future if they are serious about malling. :)

Thanks for the topic, Angel. I was very interested to see this, because I'm kind of new to being in malls (just over 6 months) so I want to learn all about it, and certainly want to know the etiquette. Even though I have very little experience with malls, I agree with the "don't slander other malls" comment, because I think this is true concerning any topic in life. That approach is always counter-productive and only makes for hard feelings and drama. I was surprised to read that anyone would leave a mall without advance notifying the leader. My gosh! That's unfair to ever member of the mall! But I totally relate to people who need to be reminded to pay their fees. Where does the time go? LOL! Sometimes I think it's been a week and it's been three. There are people in life (like me) who have no sense of time. For this reason, I'm afraid reminders will always be necessary.
