Norton Antivirus and Flash Drives

Before I get hounded, I read the sticky and I always use the latest version of FF and am running Vista 64-bit (Premium I think?) Anyway, Norton says the installer for the mall tool contains a downloader and wants to delete it. I got the installer right off this site, so can I be absolutely sure that it's not infected? Also, I install very few programs on my own computer. Would it really be that much of a hassle to run the tracker from a average-speed flash drive? What problems might I run into? Thanks!

As of portal 8.0 it'll work fine with slower flash drives. Back then, it'd really really slow down but now it's ok.As for the downloader are they referring to the updater.exe file? If so, that file can be deleted as well since portal no longer uses it. if it's referring to the portal.exe file, then it's a false positive

It's referring to the installer.exe as a downloader. I'm getting the core, if that helps.

Well obviously it installs the portal but wouldnt be surprised. Norton is one crappier ones that say everything is a virus. Otherwise people will just stop buying it when they can get AVG for free

Yeah, I don't really care for Norton, but my mom figures that it must be good if you pay for it. Oh well. I'll go ahead and install the program, then. Wouldn't be my first time having a downloader XD Thanks for the speedy reply :)

Nahh it's not good. when i had it, it kept saying i was hacked every day (this was norton internet security) from this certain ip and it even told me the the IP too. turned out it was actually just a connection between me and my internet provider *lol* some hacking that is.

Oh jeez. Now Norton is just automatically deleting the file, even if I tell it not to. I can't disable Norton, because my computer is for some reason very prone to being attacked (Got portscanned twice just two hours ago by some unknown source) and I honestly don't think a mall tracker is worth risking infection. Any idea when/if a web version is coming out?

Ahh sounds like norton is still up to their "omg you got portscanned. u got haxxed" scam as usual. Up to you though.

I have Norton, (and Vista home premium-with FF3.5) Norton thinks everything is a virus. But it should give you the option of downloading Portal-if you think it comes from a trusted site. It's well worth it :)
