PBs/MPs/Maps vs Album Items

I recently switched from Petpets/Supplies to my current category, PBs/MPs/Maps. I was making awful profit in my previous categeory, and am now doing quite well. However, the category that I originally tried to make the jump to (but someone snagged it before me in my mall) has come open again: Album Items. I am a shop sized 277 in the Nursery Mall. In your expert opinions, should I stay where I am, or attempt to make the change? I'd really appriciate some insight :)

Your decision depends on two things: what you enjoy stocking and how much time you have. Album items contain hundreds of different items. Of course, you don't have to stock them all, but to be truly successful in this category, I think you would have to have as much variety as possible. The little bonus is that the collectible cards are Light Faerie quest items, so you may get some additional business from that. Some people have said that album items isn't a profitable section, but I've seen a few very successful people in this category. It's all about figuring out how to price your items. Paintbrushes, morphing potions and maps have less items to stock since a lot of PBs and MPs are unbuyable. So if you don't have much restocking time, you could get more profits here than stocking album items. First and foremost, I always say stock what you have fun restocking.

Album items are usually terrible. There's just not much interest for that category

Excellent :) I appriciate your help, I will be staying in my current category then.

so basically my categorie sucks haha. i get good business though and yea my profits arent high, but there okay. about 10k a day.

I have to give my 2 cents here. I get so tired of hearing this. I wouldn't say album items is bad... it just has to be worked harder if you want to earn more. Which is sometimes something a lot of mallers just dont want to do. Your shoppers are usually a little smarter and if you depend completely on just over pricing by some random amount, no it probably wont fly. This is just one of those categories you have to stay competitively priced to do well in. If you are able to restock it really wont make that much of a difference anyway because you are already ahead of the game. When I was mall-less I was doing them on my own while restocking, and did fairly well.

If a person fails 99% of the time it was because they didn't play the game the right way. Plus you have all of the misguided newer people who seem to think they want to try for the stamp av's, so the lower items in those groups would sell well, and if you have cards (quest items) as well you are already two steps above some of the other shops. The rest of the sales will depend on how you run your shop. Its not rocket science. :P I know it wasnt the point of the original poster, but like I said I had to give me 2 cents lol

The others are hard work & strategy (not to say hard work and good strategy in any category won't pay off). It also bugs me a little to hear how bad avatars, books, toys and album items are -- especially since every mall has those categories that someone needs to fill. If we keep bashing them we will find it hard to staff those categories. :( You just have to know what your expectations and goals are and pick a category that is a good fit for you which takes a bit of time and thought to figure-out...Neopets is a child's game but malling takes some maturity if you want to be successful. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

LYKE GO FOR IT B4 SOME NUB TAKES IT!!!111" It just means that we have to approach these categories differently. For instance, in Xmart, we use one collectables shop spread across 2 malls. Or drop these categories all together and let everyone stock them, etc. Just some ideas.

Yeah, I think you should stay with your current category. Maps is pretty profitable. All you need to do is advertise it in the shop boards and you sell lots in a week's time. Since maps are pretty expensive, you can have a high mark-up (mine is either 2x or 3x) and people will still buy it. I get majority of my profit from maps so yeah, this is a good add-on category.
WOW! Selling: Maps, Neggs, Stamps, Coins, Cards, ETC! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=1434sweet#p
