Long distance phone charge help
Does anybody know if you receive a long distance call from a cellphone to your home phone.. would it charge your home phone? also if you use a phone card on your cellphone to call another country does it counts as minutes towards your plan?

If your home phone is receiving a long distance call from a cell phone, your home phone would not get charged. However it depends on your service provider, so you should call them to confirm this. Using a phone card will use up your plan minutes on the cell phone..

As long as you are in your home area, answering long distance calls will not charge you. Answering calls if you are away from your home area will charge you, and when you are not in your home area, the only 'local calls' you can make are to numbers in THAT area that you are visiting. Then all calls you answer will be long distance. Answering long distance calls from your home phone won't charge you unless it's collect. Not sure about the calling card things.

What you call Cell phones here in Australia we call them Mobile Phones :) Our oversea's calls from our home phone costs around 2cents per minute if we use a phone card. I purchased a $10 card to find out when I read the fine print it has to be used up within 12 months. I guess thats not a bad price but I dont know many people overseas lol so I guess I have wasted my money :( My Shop http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=buy_swap_or_sell&misc and Spots available at Pets Paradise Market Place for shop sizes 550+ http://www.neopets.com/~Vegemite_Kid

Incoming calls on land-lines are not charged -- only out-going calls so a land line can receive calls from anywhere for free unless the call is a collect call...in that case they would have to accept to pay for the call. This would be used from a pay phone generally or if someone does not have a long-distance provider. Has anyone noticed cell phones charge your twice or more for calls? My cell phone bill and the cell phone bill I call get charged for the call. I have my parents on my friends and family plan but only their home numbers because if I call their cell phone it still costs them to talk to me. Also, if I used a calling card to call another cell phone it would cost both of the cell phones minutes (from their plan) AND would be deducted from the calling card. What started-out as an emergency only device in my day has turned into a mega expensive/profitable business! [quote=TKDJamesPakTKD]i see .. thank you , i have to find out who my provider is but will do.. i know someone that lived in china that got into UVA (in America). I can now talk to the people in the state that I moved from as if it were a local call. I guess the guy bought a cell phone and got a number in the country he was calling...a cell phone only works off cell towers and has a billing location which has nothing to do with where you call from. Another way to do this is to us a phone through your computer. I have a business phone that costs $19.99 each month that has free calls to anywhere in the US and Canada. I can purchase additional area codes for $5.00 a month which makes those area codes local. That means if I have people who call me all the time, I could purchase their particular area code so that it would be free for them to call me. I GUESS his parents did a similar type thing. I didn't realize it was country to country other than US/Canada but it makes total sense! Hope that was helpful and explained way more than you needed which is my specialty! ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ temps_bons graphics ~ http://www.neopets.com/~Mimi_Miaulement

The company I use is called Packet8 or 8x8. Here is the page to buy a plan with US/Canada/Top 40 Countries for $39.99: http://www.8x8.com/residential_services/service_plans.aspx#Freedom_Unlimited_Global -- I think you have to buy the phone which wasn't a big deal for me since I didn't even have a jack in the house I bought (How could it not have a phone jack for a land line?) so it was cheaper than having a phone jack installed and using a local carrier plus buying a phone because I have only used my cell phone for years. There are other VoIP (Voice over internet provider) companies but this is just the one I use. The phone number is portable too so you get to keep it which is nice since you are in college (right?). You can keep your college number for the rest of your life if you want. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ temps_bons graphics ~ http://www.neopets.com/~Mimi_Miaulement

wow thank you !! This is exactly what I need (: my phone bill went over last month and also this month .. I also have tuitton fees to pay so I pretty much had to ask my parents for support x.x They were so mad at the fact that my phonebill was like 1/2 the cost of my tuitton o.O? well anyway yeah. I'm going to get the 39.99 one, it doesnt including mobile to premium for free .. was wondering if there was a modified plan or some other plan that did include this? If not I am still more than happy to pay 40$ a month as opposed to 4 10$ cards a week.. plus I went over my minutes !! You really are a life saver (:

You should call them to see what they have -- I saw that you get a free phone with new service so you should only have to pay the $40. Also, I have a Verizon cell plan and I have 5 Friends & Family that I can change on the internet. Depending on who I am calling is who's number is on the list. Sometimes my kids have a friend they want to talk to a lot so I add that number for a while. I have 900 minutes per month for $80 + Friends & Family but I hate talking on the telephone so I never use 900 minutes unless I am talking to my mom (I had an 8 hour call with her once, lol!)....I don't get the Friends and Family without the 900 min. plan though...go figure! I would look into a cell plan with this feature so that when you have to use your cell you can have 5 people that are free for you and one that you can change the list easily. Yes, this should save you TONS of money which will make you and your parents happy. Cell phones really are for emergencies/on the go calls so if you can keep that in mind you'll be fine. Land lines are safer to use and way more comfortable to talk on too. The 8x8 phone I have has a GREAT speaker that makes conference calls and long conversations wonderful because I can be doing something else at the same time. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ temps_bons graphics ~ http://www.neopets.com/~Mimi_Miaulement
