I used to type it only once in a while, though I probably wasn't actually laughing. Now, I add it to 90% of everything I type, still rarely laughing. It's a habit I can't break. I agree, more of a little snort laugh. Or just a smile. I also agree that it's overly used, and inappropriately used... I know because I do it myself! I use it for anything! Sometimes even in replacement of just a smiley face LOL would be that made me chuckle out loud for a second. LOL! or LOLOL would be a sign that I was laughing for sure.

I use 'haha' even when something isn't funny. it's weird how people do that. I was so tempted to say 'haha' then after that.
