Can't say from personal experience but from what I hear its just as good as ever :) As for items I'd say definitely have ALL the [buyable] BG's. Can't customize a pet without a background ;)

There has been a ton of new species specific clothing that were released. TNT has been good on their word for when releasing new items, it happens when News comes out, or the next day the species day is on. Since your coming back to malling from a hiatus, I would say browse others' shop to see what they sell. Ask around what their opinions are about certain items that sell more then others.
