The art of making a website isn't synonymous with having web-space for it. The two things are different. You need to purchase a domain name, which is you www.yourwebsite.com, and you need to purchase hosting for it. I use GoDaddy, but you'll find several people here will advise you to use different ones (I've never had any problems with GoDaddy). Hosts will generally provide domain name services, and the whole setup is easier and usually cheaper if you get both via the same company. Your host will provide you with various tools and things to maintain your site, but not to create one. They may have some templates for sites and bits and pieces to help you get started, but generally, the act of making the site is up to you. Thinking about it.. these companies would get business from people who already have a website made and ready to upload, rather than from those thinking about starting something. I really recommend that you get Dreamweaver, you can get an old version off ebay or something fairly cheaply. And I figure if you're looking to pay money for a hosting account, then a little extra for dreamweaver likely isn't out of the question. Just remember that when you start a paid website, it's a yearly fee that you have to keep paying. I started a website for my guild some years ago, and while the members rarely use it, I still do and I like having it up. So I pay the $50 a year to keep the domain and have it hosted. I'd suggest that if you want to make a website, and seeing as you're new at it, that you get dreamweaver (or another GUI) to learn with. If you can handle the complexities of web design, then you can start thinking about hosting and domains.

It's www.stocksnchat.com (the guild name is, Stocks 'N Chat.. obviously). Keep in mind that I made this some years ago when I was first learning PHP, so it's a little old, and hasn't been maintained. Still.. it's something :) I've got a special section for guild members (which requires logging in and special access), and we occasionally have some competitions and such. I've set things up so it's all automated with several competition types. As an example, if people vote on a winner, once the competition expires, the system works out who has the most votes and resolves and emails me with details. Might not be much for some people.. but I'm happy with what I've done :P

Ok. First, before you can make a website, you'll need to learn HTML/XHTML and CSS. These are programming 'languages' which the computer reads and interprets as HTML when you save it as a .html . I recommend you read up a book. It starts with simple things and aspects such as making text bold, italics, emphasised etc. and soon gets more complicated with links, tables, forms which send you an email of what was written etc. It gets hard. Soon, you will need to sign up for a paid domain (as listed in posts above me) and host your site with a web host which will usually cost somewhere between $4-$10 US. PM me if you need more help :P

depends on the site but stay away from 1and1 dreamhost godaddy dot5hosting. those are the worst. the ones who didnt have issues just got lucky with a lucky server. the one i used to use when neomallers was small is linked via affiliates on the left sidebar. their support is very quick which is a plus and you get a free domain name. ohh and dont advertise staff openings here since if you do that i have to eat it. i let it slide once and then every one and their dog started doing it so now im devouring those topics especially free ones that could potentially be cg sites with codename "graphic site"
