[GUIDE] Speeding up your firefox

Increase the Speed in Which Firefox loads pages This guide is based on: (source: http://gnoted.com/3-hacks-for-firefox-double-internet-browsing-speed/) ************BUT: dont do the browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer stuff. It's useless and actually slows down performance since most computers have plenty of RAM 1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit Enter. (Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.) 2. Alter the entries as follows: Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true” Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true” Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 10. This means it will make 10 requests at once. 3. Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0“;.(Zero) This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now. Optionally (for even faster web browsing) here are some more options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– > Interger or String network.dns.disableIPv6: set “false” “content.notify.backoffcount”: set “5“; (Five) “plugin.expose_full_path”: set “true”. “ui.submenuDelay”: set “0; (zero) ------------------------------------------------ Here's a little trick i use: If you have plenty of memory (like 1.5 GB RAM or more) Try the following to maximize RAM cache (which is faster than hard disk cache anyways) create/edit an integer called browser.cache.memory.capacity and set it to like 131072 (128 MB) Use a lower value if you dont have alot of memory. Works great on a laptop with 3 GB RAM, dual core processor.

I never knew about:config existed within a browser. huh - cool. ( "Here there be dragons!" *smile* That was cute.) So, if I wanted to undo the changes where I created the lines, like the “ui.submenuDelay”: set “0; (zero), how would I remove the line? Thanks for the new information, Dmitri. It's amazing really how much I've learned over the years directly because of my interest in Neopets ...

Very Cool! Thanks for the easy steps and explanation of what each setting changed... Shows me it can't screw my computer :P º–º–ºCødestones~Dubløøns~Neggsº–º–º http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=redick004

Wow nice! :O This is great. Helps when I'm doing something on Neo that takes 1000 RFes, which is pretty much all I do on neo *lol* EDIT: There is one little thing that's bothering me right now. Every time I reload the page, the screen flashes white first. It's a little disrupting when I'm trying to play NQII. Do you know how I can make that stop?

My firefox has always done the whole flashing thing *lol*. It could be because when I changed these settings, I didn't have to change the network.dns.disableIPv6 to false; it was already done. I wonder if that makes your screen go white between every page :O --- From the land where Funny is a smell and Peachy is an emotion...

Wow, I just made all of the recommended changes this turd of an office computer (Pentium 4, 2.79GHZ with 496mb ram LOL) here at work, and it works A LOT faster. The only drawback is the screen flashing (grey for me, not white?) between loads, but it's still faster than the lag I used to get between loads anyway.

Very nice! Compliments my 15 meg connection nicely, I never even knew about the about:config with FF, nor did I think I could get pages to load even faster (they were already click-bam! with my ISPs speed). i7 920 system with 12GB RAM, so may never need, but I set the memory.capacity to 1048576 :D The real test will be with auctions -------------------------------------------------------------- The STUFF - Mainly Codestones @ reasonable prices http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=whispering_acara&misc

Will this work with chrome too? Or is there something else I can do with Chrome to make it faster?

I felt no need to upgrade my machine until reading this, even with 5 FFs with 10 tabs each, watching youtube videos, editing images in photoshop and pretending to do work with the other 10 apps running, I never felt a need for more than the 4GB of RAM I had *lol* Actually I usually run BEHIND the curve, because my boss's boss feels that if WE have something like that, EVERYONE will want that, so I usually have a GREAT system, but not a MAKE YOUR EYES BLEED one :) Of course, once I get gigabit to my desktop, I won't care about such piddly things, yay for first tier university net connections *lol* I RS SO much better at work than at home (combination of super internet connection and a much more ergonomic setup... a laptop and optical mouse in bed just do not work as well!) I was about to say 'wow, I need to get out more', but I DID just get back from 2 hours dancing at a club!

Protons have mass? ? Why isn't this stickied anymore? I was looking for it because I lost the settings to my firefox :P I didn't know they were Catholic!
