No, I'm sorry. The "but two people COULD get into a heated argument against their favourite colour" is just reaching. That doesn't support your point at all. We are also not allowed to talk about girlfriends/boyfriends, sexual orientation, illnesses (mental or physical - up to and including the Swine Flu), pregnancy (even if you're an adult and the pregnancy was planned) or politics. In fact, while it never actually works out that way - we are technically not allowed to talk about ANYTHING other than NEOPETS on neopets. So you can stop feeling like religion has been completely martyr-ified now.
Dung is not a philosophy. Philosophy discussions always get heated when prolonged. *sigh* My complaint: I just wish they would write a full manual listing/explaining all of their rules. I have and do read the rules on a regular basis and they are really generic. I would gladly have discussions with people off the neopets site but we can't even post other sites or refer to going off site to chat. And, I completely understand that! I don't want some pervert coaxing my children off neopets to another chat site (worse case scenario)! Neopets is a game but it's also a social group (or is it?) so how do we continue our friendships made there safely and following the rules? I totally agree with all TNT rules but wanted to hear your thoughts. ~ Mimi (Please read my Guest Book: Requesting Guide Help) _____________________________________________________ Mimi's Ménagerie: Healthy Tastes Good Here! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons
...I just wish they would write a full manual listing/explaining all of their rules. I have and do read the rules on a regular basis and they are really generic.
I don't think this is possible, since the rules must keep shifting and changing as popular culture shifts and changes, PLUS the rules are interpreted differently by each staff member who applies them. There is really no way to do this. Nice idea, but in the real world, life and communication is just too complicated to put in a neat little box. As for the social site aspect, no, neopets is not a social site. Yes, I agree it really IS a social site, but not according to it's stated purpose, the advertising sponsors, or TNT. This is not a big deal since everyone has regular email and IM and other such ways of communicating off the neopets site. THIS site, for example, allows the social aspect and there are hundreds of other Neo-related community sites online. Because of that, there is really no reason to try and fit heavy discussions like religion or politics into a neomail or board message. And I also agree - I wouldn't want to. There are enough debates and heated arguments in RL that it's nice to have a place where I don't get confronted with that stuff at every turn. I just want to hang out and have a nice relaxing time with my friends. I don't find the need to discuss every topic with them to have a good time. I enjoy being able to visit a friendly little world where things are more low key. ~ Love books? Please visit my bookshop. :) http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=lolooma

Oops! One more thing I forgot to say. Yes, I would LOVE it if we could only get frozen for things we actually had clue were wrong. The rules are impossible to follow. In fact, I have thought about this in the past and come to the conclusion that it would truly NOT be possible to have an active account in Neopets and never break any of the rules. You HAVE to break the rules sometimes, even if for no better reason than you can't keep track of them all. An example is saying "OMG!" - Very common abbreviation that doesn't even have to do with religion (it can be 'oh my gosh' or 'oh my god") and they just started making it against the rules. Well, who knew that? Or all those people who lost their accounts a few months back because TNT decided their user names could have bad connotations. Some of those accounts were 7 or 8 years old! The names were fine for 7 years, but then suddenly they were iced for it? That's what I mean by keeping up with popular culture. There is just no way to predict what innocuous activity or word will be deemed improper a month or year from now. It is TERRIBLE to get frozen for something you had no idea was wrong, but you see the dilemma. I wish they had a rule (or grievance appeals panel) to balance all the freezing for new and absurd rules, but I don't think they can afford all the staff it would take to monitor that. Real life, unfortunately, is way way different from the ideals our brain can fathom. Gosh, I'm really talkative today, aren't I? Sorry folks! I promise to drink less coffee! :P ~ Love books? Yes, there definitely should be the ability to be warned, be given the opportunity to change (your user name you've had for 7-8 years especially) or settle the issue and THEN get iced if you don't fix it! Staffing issues, well the scenario I mentioned would be automated to some degree and I'll bet they can affort more staff than we can imagine! I know my guild alone has paid NeoPets enough in the last year to have our own staff member! I agree with the no talk of religion for how controversal it can be but I also think TNT overdoes it a bit and really doesn't explain the rules very well. I made a pet on my side account the other day and named it Baileyseyes and it got taken off for obsence language...I'm figuring because Bailey is a drink in another country but I live in America and Bailey is a name here, I just don't get it sometimes... I once got a warning/pet deleted that I named after a Neopets disease (antihoochie, after their disease the hoochie coochies, during the Hannah war - I was annoyed that my battle pet got that disease through fighting and created a pteri to fight some easy opponents because pteris are cheap to heal). Neo eventually gave the pet back to me, and my friend has it now, but it's impossible to know what they will deem offensive sometime. And I know the word has other connotations, but they use it on-site! Sorry about your pet.
