Virus/Scam Websites
Just wanted to pop another warning. Attached is a screenshot of a scam/virus site using neomallers.com content to attract visitors. Basically, these virus sites use keywords of more popular sites/searches. When people click on them, bam - Antispyware 2009 (which is a fake software that tries to scam your money) installs automatically on your computer. And removing this is abit of a hassle. A good way to avoid these is to of course, use noscript and flashblock (using firefox) Also, you probably shouldnt click on links that look "weird" neopet-shop-fronts.****.net ^Notice that the first part of the URL fits perfectly to your search (where the ***.net is the scam website) For instance, if you were searching for DVDs, it would probably look like free-DVDs.****.net I also attached a screenshot of how the antispyware 2009 looks like. Obviously, it couldnt install itself on my computer but...

Ugh, I had that antispyware 2009 hit my computer last month. It caused so much trouble that my husband finally had to reformat our HD and re-install everything just to get rid of it. The Noscript for Firefox would have prevented me getting that??

I was trying to find music codes for my daughters shop and got 9 trogans and a spyware program from one site that I got on google. It looked like the first screenshot you posted, perfectly fit into my search (neopets music codes). It took quite some time to get rid of them (there are several steps you have to go through) but I finally got rid of them. The spyware was so difficult I had to delete my daughter's profile off our computer. We were using Internet Explorer because we couldn't hear the music in FireFox... anyone know why we can't hear music in FF? Is not playing music one of the things that keeps FF safe? If anyone needs help removing viruses let me know. Before you reformat the hard drive...I have a pre-built system from Dell and no disks so I can't reformat or I will lose my programs. ~ Mimi (Please read my Guest Book: Requesting Guide Help) _____________________________________________________ Mimi's Ménagerie: Healthy Tastes Good Here! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons

Ah that sucks. Especially since they're using a name someone who would be looking for banners would trust. How conniving. :K Luckily I get the latest and best virus software free so anything that even attempts to run on my computer gets shut down for about 5 different angles :P

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately it'll probably be blocked if I go to it on the infected computer, because I also managed to get the Kill AV Virus which makes you unable to search for our run most antivirus/malware programs. I will try it later on when I get home thanks again! :)
