NeoMallers Portal - convert it to Web-based?

Ok i think i'm getting tired of compatibility issues and i think windows 7 might have issues running it (maybe) so i'm thinking of porting it to php. aka it'll be web based. Would you be interested/prefer this method? For now, all i can think is you can access them from anywhere you want... but some functions like the graphing tool (and maybe customers) might be lost

I love the program, and have been using it since I started malling a few months back. But in those few months, I've had a couple of computer issues, including my beloved laptop having to go back to the shop. I used 3 different computers while it was there... I think it would be better web based for purely that. I don't use the graphs, and don't track returning customers, so I wouldn't mind losing those features in favour of having a database that I could access anywhere :)

I envy you! I wish I knew about all that stuff...I'm aspiring to go to school for computer programming and graphic design...I hear it's all very time consuming and brain consuming. But I wanna be a nerd too!! LMAO- for real tho.

Ugh, seems like me and the user Six are the only ones who does not want a web based version. Bleh. What am I then meant to do when my router kicks me off? Huh? No more browsing through my low in stock items...*cry* Nope, I'm going to be a really old cranky man in this discussion and go: No.

I like it the way it is. If you can keep all the features the same, web based would be ok, but I really like the way it is now.

If you can keep all the features (I used customers, though not graphs) and allow me to continue my lovely quick alt+tabbing, I'd be completely behind this! Also, if it were online and attached to our accounts here, could you also add easier hit integration?

Ok here's the update and problems and possibilities on this issue. 1.) it's gonna take a while, especially with security since unlike the downloadable edition, everyone will be sharing the files on this server. Which means I gotta make sure people cant input Cookie grabbers or any other bad code designed to mess up the database server. I also have to make sure you dont accidentally paste your sales into someone else's account lol And my summer is almost over (boo hoo!) which means most of the free time i'll have will be directed towards maintaining the site's security 2.) Convenience is gonna be hard. Things like copy-to-clipboard and easy retrieval of data is going to require javascript which means, for all of you using noscript, you'll have to whitelist neomallers.com If neomallers.com's security is somehow breached, whitelisting neomallers.com will put you at a security risk. So far all the clever attempts have failed but there's no such thing as 100% security. 3.) this can be a group project, which can make development faster so i dont have to code it all. The core of it will be coded in php using mysql databases to store the data. The fancy stuff will probably use javascript. If anyone can help, let me know :P 4.) Flash is another option but i dont know anything about it so i'd have to teach myself it on-the-fly. (I did it with the counters and it only exploded maybe 20 times or something instead of 1000+) I'm guessing it's not too difficult since it's just simple math calculations and whatnot. However, people with slower computers might find this annoying (see how Neohomes 2 is so laggy, ditto with NC mall stuff) It's still definitely under consideration but letting you know of the current issues so you guys are not left in the dark

I think it would be pretty cool if you could just add another option to the portal to transport database that would generate a code that you could carry online to another computer and paste it into a download of Portal on a different computer, then you'd have all your information on any computer you want. Though this is just my idea, I have nothing against an equivalent to Portal, just online, just I would think that this could be done sooner or for an "In the mean time until the big update is done" thing. You could just copy your portal profile onto a USB or zip it to your email, etc, and take it to any other computer for now :P

Any idea on when this web version will come out? I think it'd be cool if there was a forum set up so people could collaborate on it to speed up the release.
