Opinion: Join MM Mall, even w/ 4 Mil Ads?

Hey guys, Sorry if the question wasnt super clear, I was trying to keep the title short so it wouldnt stretch the active forums. Basically Im wondering if a MM mall that you wanted to required participation in 4 mil ads would this be a deciding factor preventing you from joining? If your already in a mall I guess hypothetically would you stay if 4 mil ads became a new requirement. This is the situation I am in now. Ive been with RIM over a year and am 5mil away from main. There could possibly be an opportunity for me to upgrade into one of the main branches in the near future. On one hand I would really like to join. I enjoy malling with my managers and they ve helped me alot over time so it would be awesome to reach main in RIM. Since I cant mall any category besides training due to time, this could be one of my few chances. On the other hand 4mil ads havent been good to me. Ive done alot of indep ones, but never realized I was losing np until I had the portal to help and counters to see hits. Im sure a mall linked 4mil ad would be better, but Im still skeptical. I know theres training shops out there that make 4mil ads work and, but ive never had the same success. Im sure my markups could be higher in my shop, but ive been waiting to hit main to increase them a bit. I just feel silly when my np goes to hosting an image on Neo that should be profit. So I was just wondering everyones opinion on the issue, so I can see if im being silly and making it too big of a deal and weighing too much of my decision to upgrade in RIM which would otherwise be an obviousl yes. Thanks :)

Sorry I can't really help you with an answer, but I just find it funny that everyone says the 4m ones aren't worth it, when there's barely more than 10 4m ads up at a time. Practically everyone in a position to be in a NB ad (and definitely moreso for mallers) seems to know each other on the site, so I don't see why they don't all just agree to put up 1m ads instead, everyones at the exact same spot, for less. I'm just dreaming of course... but hey.

Here's my opinion on this: I would quit my mall (main market mall) if they decide to make 4M advertisements as a requirement. This is due to the fact that I do not have that kind of budget to be spending around every single week (200k-minimum x 4= 800k)! Maybe if the 4M advertisements is bi-weekly or once a month, sure I would stay but every week? Ew.

Then someone from the bd chat or another mall will post for 1np more than 1 million. Then there's competition too, Anyways, I personally wouldnt join a mall with mandatory NB ads. The individual ones are really ineffective. It only looks effective because on that day, you get an extra 100k in sales and a sharp increase in hits (especially for non-main malls) etc etc. But when you remember the fact that you spent 370k, then it starts kicking in. And that's IF you get top. If you dont, LOL. I remember i had a MALL-wide NB ad stuck in 3rd place all week and even then, it wasnt that good. I obviously made an overall profit since it was summer too. But NB ads dont usually get "stuck" in 3rd place of page 1 for a week and summer doesnt last 365 days a year

I have only once participated in one independent so probably not really the best judge of them.. But the one I was in I don't feel that I made the total cost back in clear profit and feel that I would of been in the red at the end of the week... I probably paid around 1000 to 1500 nps per hit that I got from the ad and even if each hit was a sale my markup is certainly not 1000 to 1500 np's per item

Either way there is potential for people to be saving millions weekly, for at least 95% of the same amount of sales, but, meh. :D How often do you get called dmitri santaclaus? First thing that came to my mind when I first saw your name. rofl.

If I were a mall manager I would hate to know that one of my rules was keeping my shops from top of their hut potentially. I would think top of hut would bring in more hits/sales than an ad generally. AND, any sales tool that doesn't at least pay for itself is just insanity. Maybe try talking with the mall manager(s)/owner(s) and see if you can make any headway with them on NOT making this a requirement. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

I have done both independent and mall 4M ads. I think it really depends on the category and timing of the ad. The bigger categories with larger 'impulse' items can profit from these, but other categories just don't get enough extra purchases (above the 'normal' traffic) to justify the expense, especially during school days. You get more 'extra' hits on non-school days (summer, weekends and holidays) and for mall ads, but for many smaller categories, you're lucky to break even. I stopped doing independent 4M ads (bd, magic, med) because during school, I was just plain loosing NP (big time). The mall ads I would still consider doing, if my mall did them, because the cost is generally less than the independent ads and you get extra traffic from mall members who are also getting extra traffic. You also have to consider the long term effect of building up a clientele (repeat customers from bookmarks). On the subject of Main Market, from what I can tell, that's not as big an issue as positioning your shop in other markets. I get more 'hut' hits when I'm on top of a 'hut' in MI than many MM shops that aren't on top of a 'hut'. It's like real estate in the 'real' world: location location location. In this case top of hut = more hits than just being in main market but not on top. - peter

Hey Nil. I've already given you a huge breakdown of my sales with ads, mall and independent :P But it stinks that you dont seem to be getting the same profits out of them. The thing is that mall ads are better than 4mil ads. So the mall manager is going to force everyone to participate in it, so that it stays as a mall ad. If the manager lets you drop out, then a couple others will also drop out. Then the ones who stayed on it will probably suffer some sales (cause of the random non-mall shops that the ad will now link to). So then they start dropping their spots as well. Then its just an independent ad, and sort of useless to call it a mall ad. So I can understand why it would be forced, as to keep it a mall ad. On the other hand, people losing profits from them sucks. You can talk to the manager maybe, ask if you can try out the spot and ad for a few weeks. If it isnt doing well for you, maybe you can find a replacement to take your spot in the ad? If your manager agrees to this, I'd join. But I know its not likely they'll agree =( Good luck deciding

No, I wouldn't. Maybe if they were lenient and such regarding letting you find a filler and whatnot. We tried 4m ads in LBs (mall only) because everyone wanted to. What we learned was some categories made their profit back in addition to substantially more than their weekly profit, but some made the same weekly profit, plus an extra 100k or so on ad day (which translates into a loss if you think about it). To me, if everyone isn't making profit then it's not worth it. We've decided to maybe try on holidays and next summer, but not during the school year for sure. - Kara
