I will close FF and some part of it stays open so that if I try to open it again I get a message saying it is still running. It doesn't show up in Task Manager -- I solve that problem by logging out and logging back in.
I get that sometimes too. I just hit ctrl+alt+del, and hit start task manager (on Vista anyway). It's not on task manager but after I close the manager and click firefox again, it starts right back up. Sometimes after I get the message saying its already running, I just close that little box and click firefox again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Then I revert back to step one, ctrl+alt+del.
If it says it's still running after I've had it closed for a minute or something (not just from closing and reopening too fast) I ctrl+alt+del and go into processes and end the process "firefox.exe" and that seems to work fine. I just installed the release candidate of Windows 7 to dual boot with vista in case I had any issues but I made the partition too small to put my music. Oops. I find it interesting you only had a 5GB hard drive if your computer is 5 years old. My ibook clamshell has 10gb and is 9+ years old.

I feel like such an idiot! I have more than 5G! I'll try the stop process for firefox.exe and see if that works (I have just discovered you can do this. Also, making FF a higher priority instead of "normal" speeds it up tremendously! It works as fast or faster than safari which is nice since none of the anti-cookie grabber programs work for safari! I just thought it would be fun to put all three of our free-space dilly-ma-doodles up together. And yes, "dilly-ma-doodles" is a technical term so learn it & use it! *lol* ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc
lol you guys are all poking fun at my failure in setting the size of the Windows XP Partition. :(
You have so few flaws we are duty bound to exploit the few we find, sorry! I don't even know how to partition or why I would want one but I have run across it as I was poking around. I just know one of these days I'm going to mess up my computer with my deletion-happy self! ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

Partition is mainly dividing up your hard drive into several "parts" or drives. I split my hard disk (which is 120GB in size) to 11.2 GB and 100 GB sections. One to hold Windows XP and the other to hold Windows 7 (originally vista) As for flaws, heh heh, i have a whole bunch (A)

This whole board has been like a completely different language to me. It flustered me so much that now I just cry and move on, LOL.

For some reason my roomies computer came with the drive partitioned exactly in half... So her entire computer runs on the one half, and the other half is completely empty. Last time I tried to fix her computer, I moved a few pictures and such to the empty half, but I didn't do enough to really accomplish much... goodness gracious is her computer ever slow. I hate trying to fix things on it. Setting up wireless was horrific. And it doesn't help that she has Vista. *puke* ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~

Does it help the speed so the app doesn't have to look all over the HD for files? I think it would be nice to have all my programs on one part with another part for files so I can finally know how much space I have to save all these graphics I keep making and saving. I should prolly put them on disk but that's annoying unless you have a client who takes up a lot of space. And, heeeey--120G total, I knew you were holding out -- there was no way you could have all those programs on your desktop with 11G! As for flaws...well, uh, I got nothin' to say after that, *lol* ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc

Not really. Maybe it's slower by a milisecond or two but the benefits are better for me. Windows 7 does a better job at conserving battery life so i boot into that operating system (from the D drive) when i need battery life. However, installing all sorts of stuff on it will clog it and decrease battery life so for everyday stuff, i use windows XP from the C drive. As for apps, most of them are stuffed on the 11G partition. Only the big games are run from the other drive

I would love to be able to just search the web for answers but I can't make sense out of what they are talking about! This is what I got when I attempted to go elsewhere first: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic55152.html NOW I understand what it is telling me though it has nothing to do with what they are talking about. It turned-out to be a Microsoft Spyware/Virus program of all things. ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Mimi's Ménagerie ~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons&misc
