I was around during Curse of Maraqua and the Darigan/Meridell war (I think... it was the one with Kass) but I was too much of a newbie to actually participate, I did like 5 battles and stopped. Then when LPD happened, I didn't play Neo at the time... But my best friend did and I stayed at her place for like a week helping her draw a map of the maze, loll.

With like any realistic economy - sales do go down. If there's not enough demand for your category and you're overpriced, the likelihood of you making sales become slim to none. (please note 'you' as in the universal 'you.') However, I notice that if I price just a little above the SSW in certain items, they fly out fairly quickly. Also - running ads in the NB right now aren't a bad thing - however, do to CGing a lot of people are afraid to randomly click on shops/links/banners. I think that's the nightmareish result of everything. ~~Pixel Perfect~~
