Not too sure really :P Only time will tell, plus the category will only get bigger with time so the split will probably have to come eventually.

I stock all of it grooming, clothing, wearables, blackgrounds. I love having people come in for quests, I find that it brings some nice profit, but the majority of sales are wearable things. I hope to see what it's like to just handle wearables some day soon. I find it much more fun than the grooming/clothing stuff :/.

However, as far as I can tell my mall doesn't intend on splitting the categories any time soon :( But I shall survive :P plus some items are selling like crazy! like Pink Tiaras, for some reason I sell tons of them every day.

I would love to try just a wearable & background store just have a rough time letting go of the clothing/grooming due to good sales I get from them. I do get better sales on the wearables/backgrounds thou...specially the backgrounds I am in the middle of redoing our mall banner for Island Oasis and thinking I am going to split it this way clothing/grooming, backgrounds, and wearables 3 different buttons. I know I am taking the clothing/grooming and background buttons. SO I got to go hunting for a wearable person to fill that spot in the mall. Which I don't think that will be too hard to get filled. I would not mind but hate the idea of lossing all my established customers and having to start over again. Plus I think if I was to switch categories I probably would go to neohome/garden or collectibles (stamps, coins, and so on) Clothing, Grooming, Wearables & Backgrounds~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=ladytaelorae

I got starting with my shop just stocking only the Air Faerie quest stuff and sold very well solo. TThen when I was able to join a mall I got moved into the Grooming/Clothing and Air/Fire FQ spots. I do quite well (except when main shops don't stock wearables for hours on end - and I mean single species or the stuff that doesn't appear every single restock and am forced to buy from user shops to stock on). As far as I know my mall isn't planning on splitting the categories out and if they ever do...there's gonna be a fight :D The Anti-Marketplace shop for your Clothing, Grooming and Wearables shop. Also selling Fire and Air Faerie Quest items. http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=bridefanreturns
SO I got to go hunting for a wearable person to fill that spot in the mall.
I just took a look at your categories and why not add wearables to the school & instruments category? That shop needs more stock and you might sell more school supplies if you add a hot category with it. My opinion (please be kind in your responses to these): I would be aggravated to have to go to two different shops for wearables... I would expect backgrounds to be with the other wearable items but I don't claim to understand the psychology of mall categories! Many of the combos make no sense to me. Other opinions & questions: Grooming is such a presence in a shop (it takes up huge rows on page one and creates such an impact but I love how organized it looks) is there any real reason besides tradition that it is seemingly always grouped with clothing? Isn't adding these two categories basically creating a faerie quest only shop? I know people buy from both categories but at the same level if say you split them up? I have been giving mall categories some thought lately since I have been making NB Ads for other users and I think maybe giving each shop a non-faerie quest category and a FQ category might generate more sales. I know that when I am on a faerie quest I get my item and leave so I can get on with doing what I was doing (using SSW, LOL!) so maybe other players are the same? If you distributed FQ shops then shops might be more profitable and have more interesting stock to catch the eye of the FQ shopper so maybe they would come back. Also, if you have so many items for FQ to stock then shops (most of them) miss the really beautiful grooming and clothing items because they are making sure they are stocking their FQ categories. Earth FQ shops are a good example of what I think is a good combo...I have been wracking my brain for what grooming goes with that isn't clothing. Why not something completely random like school and instruments? It could add some needed structure to the shop stock. Just some thoughts (and questions) albeit from an outsider's perspective. ~ Mimi (Please read my Guest Book: Requesting Guide Help) _____________________________________________________ Mimi's Ménagerie: Healthy Tastes Good Here! http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=temps_bons

I think you definately make some good points :) Sadly for everyone to have some sort of faerie quest link with their shop it would mean an overall drop in members within the mall. I do agree with the possible linking of something like grooming with music though, I think that could possibly work. As for my malls choice to split backgrounds off from wearables, I agree, having to go into two seperate shops for wearables is annoying. However, before the split I was THE best stocked wearables only shop. I was heading towards page 14. Not many people want to scroll through that many pages to find backgrounds. Some of the ones on the later pages weren't selling as well as they should have in my opinion. Therefore seperating them off is making all the backgrounds more easily accessible. The problem with the category "wearables" is that it is growing at an insane rate. I wouldnt be surprised if I have over 20 pages of stock by the end of this year, and thats without the backgrounds. We also split for the practical side of things. Splitting backgrounds from wearables allowed us to get yet another shop into the mall. More shops increases overall ability to control the marketplace better and have more chance of having a shop top of hut which is a great benefit for the whole mall. This may not work for all malls though. Backgrounds as a lone category isn't that brilliant yet. Luckily my co-owner who took the backgrounds spot wasn't too interested in overall profits and just wanted a smaller easy to manage category.
