Clothing/Grooming/Wearables VS. Clothing/Grooming OR Wearables only
Clothing, Grooming, & Wearables Store versus Wearable & Background store or Clothing & Grooming I been talking to a few people lately and would like more opinions. Do you think it would be better off to stock just wearables or clothing/grooming I got a post on a customization thread I did about confusing people by stocking non wearable items. http://www.neopets.com/neoboards/topic.phtml?topic=132860591 I am looking for more perspectives of a shoppers and mall perspective. For being in a mall it could mean another member by not having them combined but is it better to keep them together since I believe all the new clothing is wearable?

Stocking fire/air quest items brings in on average about 10-20 hits a day, and I think a lot of those hits turn into sales. Taking advanta...err, making it handy for people who can't use the SW is very profitable :P You should make all wearables prices end in a certain number (I chose 99), and clearly state that somewhere on your page, that should avoid any confusion

Split :) We split the category about 9 months ago now in our mall. I took wearables and actually saw an increase in my sales from when i had clothing and grooming combined with it. Meanwhile we have a clothing and grooming shop which is doing very well alone, so it's a great way to get another member in a mall.

I can see both sides of it, but I agree that I like having the air/fire faerie quests to bring in customers. Though you also have to think about how confusing it can be to see non-wearables items on the first few pages. Like killercars above, I price my wearable items with a different last number and clearly state "only items that end in 8 are wearable." I also have wearable "specials" at the top of the page, also clearly labeled. I did recently have someone threaten to report me for scamming, saying that I claim everything in my shop is wearable, and then they tried to scam me when I offered to refund any nps they accidentally spent on non-wearable items, but luckily that doesn't happen too often. And, finally, wearables/backgrounds spots are so hard to get on the 4mil independent ads, that I'm glad that I also do clothing/grooming and can get on an ad or two too. Then once the customers get to my shop, hopefully they shop around. Heh, sorry for the long post, but I also just remembered that some non-wearable clothing items sell quite well for me too. So I personally like having them together, though if I had the chance to give up clothing/grooming, I'd still have to consider it.

I did wearables-only simply because I did not like the way grooming/clothing shops looked :/ I hate all the hats, shirts, collars, and eye shadows/other make-up at the top of page 1. All the items are old and cheesy looking and it drove me nuts! After awhile I added in only FFQ items and didn't really see a difference in sales.

LOL that's true about the dung. I just hated it because all the shops looked the same when they had all those :/ Not that it's much different than if you're wearables-only because all the same items will be on the first page too, but yeah. It just bugged me!

I doubt it would do well myself. Toys, plushies usukis etc is already quite a slow category, plushies alone would probably fail.

I agree I think it would be a slow but fun to stock store. I know I sell tons of backgrounds okay on the wearables and a lot of clothing not too much on the grooming side. I just wish I knew if better to separate on the banner or keep as one Clothing, Grooming, Wearables & Backgrounds~ http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=ladytaelorae

It's a tough call. The safest route is to make seperate buttons, and then you can link to one shop or many. Therefore adapting to changes that come along. Our mall is now going one step further and seperating backgrounds from wearables, therefore having 3 shops for what is in many malls just one spot. It's worth it for the increase in exposure.
