Do you upgrade with or without stock?

I'm just curious what works for you all. Currently I'm trying to expand my stock and upgrade and I'm losing more than I'm gaining xD On one hand its causing me to go broke now but on the other hand I don't want to have to buy mass quantities of items later on. I doubt I'll ever fill my entire shop but I'd like to have 2 of 1000 different items eventually. :/ Let me know what you think works best thanks :)

Nicole, I can't believe that *lol* And right now if my shop was what I consider "fully" stocked, then I'd have about 350 free spaces ^^ I still upgrade though. It depends on the category I guess. Imagine if you were like Dmitri who has a shop over the size of 1100 that sells only Paint Brushes... 5000+ PBs to fill it x.x So yeah, category is a major factor.

Without :P I think hut placement is very important, so hence i have a slight amount of space currently available to me right now Twirlisha says 'Welcome!' Items Stocked : 4201 · Free Space : 1859 to be fair, i could easily fill my shop, but new wearables are coming out daily. I think it varies category to category, however I have found that with wearables the more stock I have the better my sales, and my hits too. I pride myself on being one of if not the best stocked wearables shop in neopia.

Well I don't often upgrade my stock much anymore. I already stock every item in my category. Usually the only time an item increases in number in my shop is if I snipe and item then I pretend I didn't buy that one and toss another into my shop and update it as I go. I agree with the less pages though. If I go to a shop that I didn't get to from the Shop Wiz, I'm not going to want to flip through 7 pages of junk items to see if I can find one treasure.

[quote]Nicole, I can't believe that[/quote] It's true! In my item database I have 2,803 items my shop can hold 5,010 items. So, yeah if I only stocked 1 or 2 of each item it would hold them all, but I don't even want to think about the time I'd have to spend restocking if I did that *lol*

I try and upgrade atleast a few times a month but this week, I went from 301 - 310...

I feel like I earn more when my shop is fully stocked, so I always upgrade with new stock ready to go. I use my upgrades as opportunities to add new and interesting items to my inventory. And up until recently, I've always found that I've had way more stock than room in my shop, so I'm always upgrading to make room. My next plan is to concentrate on stocking some gourmet items.

This has been an interesting topic, I've enjoyed reading the replies :) I generally upgrade first, then fill the space later...although there have been times I've needed more space, so upgraded. So I guess I do both :P I have a question about the idea that less pages sometimes equals more sales, because people don't have to/don't like to wade through so many pages. Do you think that pertains to book shops as well? Like Kirsty, I've always prided myself on having as much unique stock as possible. I have 18 pages of books. But I often see bigger shops than mine who average about 10 pages of books, and I've often wondered why that is? Any thoughts on whether book shops should have tons of stock or maybe not quite so much?
