Struggling to make a mall banner

Hello Hello! So, as some of you know, I struggled to make a shop banner for myself not long ago (actually got a nice one done monday and it's still not perfect)... With my graphic designer having neo issues (got frozen, is frustrated, prolly not getting her acct back and MAYBE rebuilding) I decided I would TRY to make a banner before asking her for a new one... So that's probably going to take me 1 to 2 weeks of long testing and trying and advices - which is why I'm here, if you want to help me :D This is JUST a size/positions setting, I chose a random font for now, just to set places... In MY opinion, buttons look.. Too big O.o But they look about the size of other "normal" mall banners so it's prolly just me... xD How's it look (size-wise)?
*hugs you until you turn a slightly darker shade of purple* thanks :P I shall investigate, and never again will one of my shop banners be without smoke :P XD
~ May ~ Hum that question mark was suppose to be a heart -.- Erm.. Did I just create a monster? XD

I don't think it looks at all crowded, I think its really nice.. It may seem a little crowded at first glance just because adding the items makes such an extreme difference from how empty it was before. *nods* But I really like the way it looks. Its very eye catching and unique. And it doesn't hurt that blues and turquoise colors like that happen to be some of my favorites. :O ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~~ Come visit my map shop ~~

Just a thought.. Have you tried a 1 or 2 pixel stroke around the words and buttons to make them sharp and stand out a little.. It would sort of make the thin line around them like the images have. Looking good though

Just popped in and yeah, much better than what is seen on the first post. The smoke adds contrast to the buttons but an even better approach is to add a stroke on the button edges. Perhaps a lighter shade of blue might do. Play around with it and see how it goes. As for the font, try to keep it simple if possible. the current font is abit harder and slower to read and people might pass over it (remember, people are so freakin lazy when it comes to reading :P ) My computer teacher also said that adding too many special effects spoil the whole thing (this was for a powerpoint slide) but the same applies to banners. You dont want too many things going on. But in this case, the smoke is great. it's not drowning the buttons For the faerie quest spots, try adding a text called "faerie quest shops" or something since complete newbies will have no idea what the heck water, light, etc means. They might even think.. ohh water items. Finally, for the more unpopular spots, you can make it abit more attractive by adding a glow to some of the items. For instance, the med soap looks very nice with a very slight green glow. If you really want to create an unique banner, you can make it irregular instead of the regular square look (for instance, stick in a mall logo at the top and let it stick out of the main banner border)

It looks crowded to me too. I think if the items were smaller it would help a lot.
