Wow. You guys have a lot of guts on buying these cards in public. I always try to look at those cards but I try not to make it too obvious. I look at the gift card area and I make it look like I'm buying shopping spree gift cards when my intention is to look at the neopets cards. So hilarious. Anyways, my curiosity stops there though. I just can't imagine myself buying those without getting some sort of humiliation.
This is just like so much in life -- it's about YOUR attitude while you are making the purchase, asking the questions. If you feel guilty, you look guilty and everything the person says to you sounds like they are thinking what you are thinking. "Back again" sounds like the person recognizes you and that's all. Because you feel funny about buying the card you are reading into his/her comment. Just go into a shop and tell yourself you are buying a present for your little sister; neighbor; best friend's child...your attitude will be completely different and then you won't read into what people are thinking. It's not like you are buying porn -- it's a legitimate website and millions of people play it or have played it. I have mentioned that I play Neo to my adult friends and one said, "Wow, that sounds really fun! I'm going to check it out!" Another confessed they had Millions of points in some pirate role-playing game (steal a ship's stuff and sell it for points??) And the others are just thankful I am not spending the hours I spend on Neopets in a drunken stupor feeling sorry for myself because I'm going through a difficult time in my life. March in those shops ask where the NC Cash cards are and act pissed if they don't have them! *takes mommy hat off and sits down* ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ temps_bons graphics ~ http://www.neopets.com/~Mimi_Miaulement
I tried looking around at shoppers drug mart (canada) since they come with giftboxes and other bonuses but couldnt find them and I dare not ask a sales associate about them *lol*
I'm from Canada and they are with the phone cards in every store I've seen them in. Usually at the end of an aisle.

Yet I've gone into a store looking for some neopets loot, asked a very attractive sales associate rather awkwardly if they had any neopets stuff and said they were for my niece.. Which I actually felt more awkward making up an excuse for the process.

Just look at almost any Gas station, near the front a lot of them have these kind of cards for tons of games. --- Step outside, take a breath of fresh air, then look down to see if you have a new text message.

"Sales clerk turns on intercom: Do we have any copies of the Love Ducks CD? For this boy?" "Arthur: I HAVE A LITTLE SISTER!" Lol I've watched way too many episodes of that old childrens show, I can quote most of it. --- Step outside, take a breath of fresh air, then look down to see if you have a new text message.
I didn't feel funny about him saying back again to me. I thought it was funny that he remembered me. :* I think I made him feel uncomfortable, though, when he was trying to get me into AION - raving about how awesome it - and I found out he didn't even play MMORPGs. Well said Mimi! I think it's kind of like anything out there that would make you feel uncomfortable buying (forgive me for saying this, but) I think a lot of people classify it into the same category as condoms, lube, and pregnancy tests - it's something taboo that we don't like to talk about and we don't like to think other people KNOW we're looking at them. I quite honestly myself have no problem buying anything. Or talking about anything, for that matter. :D If people would be more *open* in this world, we wouldn't have too much of problems. But unfortunately, society has made us think that certain things are taboo when really, it's not. Hey, I still watch Arthur, Spongebob, and the Fairly Oddparents and I'm 18. My friends make fun of me for it, does that stop me? My own mother LOVES the last two, and she 45. We would sit down and watch it together, it was like a bonding experience for us. Seriously, if people were more open about stuff (not just this, but the concept of there might be more than one religion, and gay rights and the like [NOT trying to start a flame war here people! Just trying to give some examples!!]) The world would be a better place.
It's not shallow to care about what people think. Everyone cares to a degree, whether they admit it or not. But being who you are and enjoying life is infinitely more important than worrying if someone is looking down at you for buying a game card. :) I don't know so much that gamers have a specific look; I think that some people stereotype gamers. But, I understand what you're saying - I usually shock people when I tell them what all I play. I generally get a lot of laughs about neopets. :P - Kara
