Yes! They do bother me, A LOT! I think they miss the whole point of malling and who you want to be in a mall. I think they see it as a way to get-rich-quick and want to jump from noob to billionaire in a month. I like knowing that someone has spent about a million neopoints to get to their shop size first so they are somewhat committed shopkeepers!
As for the internal recruiting issue, I know I felt bad for my mall losing the larger shops we had just recruited to the upper branches. I think if they do move they should wait to move until a replacement is found when possible. Also, if we could have "fill-ins" for the categories that are open it would make our malls more appealing I think. I think it makes us look a little bad to have a lot of links going to an application....but it IS effective! Hmmm.....I KNOW this policy has been well thought out and there are reasons for doing it this way though!
I must say that when I got asked to move up I felt bad because I had only joined the mall a month earlier and we had almost gotten to full capacity with really good size shops. While I understand the idea of promoting from within -- if the info is pasted on the info pages we can apply for the positions if we want. I don't know how you handle that in the future :( and that is why I do not manage a mall! :)
I joined The Nursery Malls because I thought their policies were the most logical & well communicated. They also have a great reputation with the larger malls as a starting place. Now that I have been with them a little while I think they are managed really well! I love the way they have a treasury and just post where the neopoints take them and that the info pages are updated so frequently!

For malls to have some effectiveness, you need at least spooky size. and even then...

I don't think one necessarily must be spooky-sized. I'd argue The Nursery is a HIGHLY effective mall. They let me start when I was a mere size 33, and I was doing brisk business, allowing me to upgrade fast. I got caught up with the Preschool "move-up" thing, so now I'm trying to recoup np from going from 60 to 105 more quickly than my np could last, but business is still good.
I think it's important for the malling community to have smaller malls that are able to offer a happy medium between typical stores and the MM shops. It provides a nice balance of selection while allowing more people to get involved in the sport that is malling ;).
Oh, and hello, all. I'm Alexandra, I'm a new member of NeoMallers, and I'm the proud Attack/Defense owner of The Preschool.
Aw, look at all the Nursery Malls' members coming to bat for us =}
That is great guys!
Cris would be proud!
As I know I am.
We do set new minimums each month so that we can all be in marketplaces soon! When I took over the Preschool branch as manager, it was size 50 or 75 minimum, now it is 150 =}
We up it 25 every few months, and let the members get there in a steady pace, but all new members must be there to apply or whatnot =}
And agreed.
We had 2 manager switches and abandons back to back, so we have openings from them taking 'not-so-best' "mallers", and such.
=)
I know this topic is old, just thought I would add my two cents:
I don't believe the size of the shops is the main factor in deciding the effectiveness of a mall, even though it is very important... i think the dedication of the shop keepers and mall owners/managers is what really makes the mall a success or not.
And yes, I am a member of The Nursery malls as well.... i've went from size 110 (or there abouts) to size 250.
It looks like almost everybody from the nursey malls have come here :o
Agreed how they are a well-organized mall, and agreed about how annoying those malls with size 10 requirements.
~ May ~
Since the thread was poked up I'll add my two cents..
I think it's not about malls that start off small and go increasing, with a decent quality and all - nursery mall(and branches) are well managed and well filled, ever growing malls - and I see that cause I've seen them around for a while and they seem to be improving..
I try to keep mine that way too, improving, growing.. Now, if your current/minimum size is 20 or 30 forever? that's awful.. lol
*shrugs* Did I make sense? XD
Well malls under market size are not really worth the time =/ It's better to just restock... unless you just want to get a feel of what malling is like... without the profits.
