Question for Map Shops
Im going to be adding some maps into my shop, like the petpet lab ones and some secret lab ones. I was just wondering how you deal with maps that have the same name in your portal? Do you make 9 items in your DB and name them like "Petpet Laboratory Map 1", etc in your DB? Then when you sell them, you keep track of which sold by having them priced differently? (piece #1 could be 1001, piece #2 is 1002, etc)? For the petpet lab map, I was gonna leave them all as 1 item as I didnt care much about differentiating, but for the secret map, the prices for bought@ would vary quite a bit (where as with the petpet lab, they are all around 750nps or whatever, so it's fine for calculating profits). Just wondering what other map shops do, if you have other suggestions? :)

I used to have the complete maps printed out with a number put on it. Then I would have a sellingvalue with every number on that same piece of paper and next to it the number of items that I should have in stock. Or do it in excell.. example; *1 *2 *3 *4 *5 *6 ---> let's say this is your map (with the pictures so you can find it easily in other shops) *7 *8 *9 *1 xxxx1 nps - 4 stock *2 xxxx2 nps - 11 stock *3 xxxx3 nps - 7 stock etc yes, it's not as fancy as the neomallers portal, but it worked for me to keep track if you do it in excell, you can make it do all these cool calculations so you know your exact profit. but I can't do that.

Thanks for the info. I like to keep track of my profits and such in the Portal. When you submit your shop front, if you have "Petpet Laboratory Map", but it shows up 9 times, does the portal add up all those quantities and count it as one item? It would help for me to know how the portal deals with that, so I can figure out what I want to do. (For example, if I stock 10 of each of the petpet lab maps, then submit my shop front, will it say that I have 90 in stock?)

Jellin' Mel, you can always make another name in Portal and try it out =D Like stock a few of each and see how it handles it, or go to someone with a map shop and see how it handles if you submit their front and whatnot =D

My portal has 1 Petpet Laboratory Map at one price. I have all 9 pieces in my shop at 1K. I guess it just keeps up with each sale as if it is one item. I just added them to my shop and haven't sold any. Hmmmm! I do pretty much just what you said. Piece of a Treasure Map 1 etc... then in note pad I keep a running list of which map piece is priced what. When I do my sales history I paste it into notepad first, and go down the line changing the appropriate pieces adding the number after the name. Then paste it into the portal. Basically the same when pasting the shop front. I will paste the pages with maps on it into notepad first adding the number after the names. It is a little time consuming at first, but once you get it down it only takes an extra minute or so. I do it for all of the maps, including petpet. If you dont do this the portal will only see the first piece of the map when you paste your shop front.

Cool, thanks for the info Steph. Stinks that the portal doesnt add the quantities. I was thinking about keeping petpet lab map as 1 item (since they all cost the same), but then doing what you said for the treasure maps.

I do it for the pasting with the petpet maps, but just go in order 1-9 in the sales history because all mine are the same price too.
