Criticism/Advice on my shop please? Also a few questions.
Hi there! Alright so I just started getting into shopkeeping a few days ago and have read countless guides. I saw one of the guides mention this site and I have to say the portal tool is extremely helpful. So far I have a few questions. 1. Would you consider wearables and backgrounds to be a profitable category? 2. My shop size is only 12 right now :P I have 6m in the bank, should I upgrade to say 50 and then stock, or upgrade a few then stock? 3. How much should I expect to make at size 100? 4. Should I be looking at other shops to determine what to stock? I've also been looking at the JellyNeo Item Database. 5. I've read the portal guide and am a little confused on how I should go about restocking my shop. So far I've been buying an item, putting it in my shop and then pricing it. I haven't really been able to find a fast way. Do you guys buy all of your items, put them in your shop and then stock them? And also, could you check out my shop and give me any graphics criticism? I'm trying to create a nice layout but need some opinions of things to change. Alright the questions are all done with :P I would really appreciate your help.

Hello, welcome to the forums and to answer your questions: 1.) Yes wearables and backgrounds is very profitable. Things inflate and then deflate and the potential is growing very large. 2.) Yeah you should upgrade to around 100 if you can... not because of any exposure but so you can have around 500 items in your shop to sell stuff. Wearables is a big category and takes many items to do well. 3.) Depends on your pricing strategy but i'd say around 30k or so without a mall. 4.) You can do that or use jellyneo's sort feature to order by price. However, you'll need some expensive items so you can benefit from inflation. 5.) Yup that's the only thing you can do. Any automated means is against neopets terms and conditions. The portal simply tells you what to restock and the rest you have to do yourself. --------------------------------------------- Celebrate Xmas at Xmart. Alright, thanks! So about pricing, how much should I up the price of my items? Should I try maybe 25% at SW price and the rest maybe 1-2k more? Also just curious, how much do you average out making each day? :) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Wearables Galore: http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=sybia123

I think you just have to work one out for yourself and realize pricing strategy changes as your shop gets larger. At size 12 you may want to sell every item in your shop daily, but at 250 you don't want to do that because 1250 items is a lot of restocking. Also, if you are not in a marketplace (275+ shop size); not in a mall and do not advertise in a 4MIL Notice Board Ad you will depend heavily on the Shop Wizard (SW) for sales. Take my advice and buy items from the Neopian shops when you can and SW only when you must or it is cheaper. Many forfeit profit when they use SW to restock their shops -- when you buy from SW and sell using SW unless you get an amazing deal your profit is generally less than if you'd bought a wearable at Uni's Clothing. You have to do your research though to know which items are cheaper on SW. I always research the huge mall shops for ideas on stock. I try to stock something for every price-range and keep most of my <1,000 NP items on the first 3 pages since those sales will not show up in the sales history. Best of luck to you and just know that you'll need to know what your goals are and how much time you want to spend on Neopets to be a successful and happy shopkeeper. You could spend 100 hours a week or you can spend 2 hours a week. Make a plan, realize no one gets rich over night and have a lot of fun! ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ temps_bons graphics ~ http://www.neopets.com/~Mimi_Miaulement

Alright thanks for the advice! So far I've upgraded my shop to 100 and have 375 items stocked :) I have two questions now: 1. Can you guys look at my shop and tell me if my layout needs any work or if you think anything should be changed? 2. Is there any way to sort the portal item database by the shop wizard price? And thanks so much for your help! I wouldn't be anywhere close to where I am without this site :D P.S. - Dmitri your shop has been helpful for finding items to sell :P -------------------------------------------------------------------- Wearables Galore: http://www.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml?owner=sybia123

It's waaaay late here so going to bed but just in-case you're still obsessing about your shop (we all do it, lol) I thought I'd give you an idea you maybe hadn't thought of *unsure* G'night and best of luck!! ~ Mimi ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ temps_bons graphics ~ http://www.neopets.com/~Mimi_Miaulement

I think the layout is pretty nice, but I just wanted to say that I think you should make the top banner a bit smaller, because it is wayyy too big in my opinion. However, it is quite nice. ________________________________ Are you feeling lucky? Click Here!

Alright thanks :) Yeah, I created the layout on a 1920x1200 monitor so I wanted some people with smaller screens to look at it and tell me how it looked.
